  Description

  I am a native Kichwa speaker, so I speak Kichwa, Spanish, and intermediate English. I have lived in Asia and Europe, and currently live in my community working on my project, which involves regenerative agriculture, pig farming in a forest, bio-construction, fish farming, raising small animals, and tourism. I have national and international academic training. I was a teacher in Taiwan, and I am also a musician. I love having deep conversations about any topic. My aim is not to contradict, but to respectfully express my perspective, based on my way of life, and to learn from other experiences.
  
  I have two children, the first is 8 years old and the second is 3. Both speak English better than Kichwa and Spanish. They are very fun and enjoy helping with the farm work.
  
  Soy un nativo Kichwa, por lo tanto hablo el idioma Kichwa, español e inglés intermedio. He vivido en Asía y Europa, actualmente vivo en mi comuna trabajando en mi proyecto lo cual implica: agricultura regenerativa, porcicultura en un bosque, bio-construcciones, piscicultura y crianza de animales menores y turismo. Tengo formación académica nacional e internacional. Fui docente en Taiwán, también soy músico. Me encanta mantener conversaciones profundas sobre cualquier tema. Mi afán no es contradecir, sino expresar mi perspectiva acorde a mi forma de vida de manera respetuosa, y aprender de otras experiencias.
  
  Tengo dos hijos, el primero de 8 años y el segundo de 3, ambos hablan inglés mejor que Kichwa y español. Son muy divertidos y disfrutan ayudando en las labores de la granja.

  Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

  The volunteer experiences a true cultural exchange here in the Ecuadorian Andes, in the Kichwa community of Tunibamba, Cotacachi. They learn ancestral wisdom: how to live in harmony with the land, build with mud and cangahua (a type of volcanic rock), cultivate in harmony with the climate, care for animals, and live sustainably. We share traditions, language, music, gastronomy, and Andean worldview. They don't just come to help—they come to experience a way of life. We walk through the forest, work together, eat together, and talk at sunset with guitar music and coffee. Here, they are not visitors; they are part of the family. I also learn from them: their culture, their worldview, their knowledge. It is a mutual exchange of roots and ways of seeing life. They take away not only experience but also a different way of being in the world.
  
  El voluntario vive aquí un verdadero intercambio cultural en los Andes ecuatorianos, en la comunidad Kichwa de Tunibamba, Cotacachi. Aprende la sabiduría ancestral: cómo convivir con la tierra, construir con barro y cangahua, cultivar en armonía con el clima, cuidar animales y vivir de forma sostenible.
  
  Compartimos tradiciones, lengua, música, gastronomía y cosmovisión andina. No solo vienen a ayudar — vienen a vivir una forma de vida. Caminamos el bosque, trabajamos juntos, comemos juntos, conversamos al atardecer con guitarra y café. Aquí no son visitantes, son parte de la familia.
  
  Yo aprendo también de ellos: su cultura, su visión del mundo, sus conocimientos. Es intercambio mutuo de raíces y formas de ver la vida. Se llevan no solo experiencia, sino una forma distinta de estar en el mundo.

  Accommodation

  The accommodation is a 4x5m room with exposed brick walls, ceramic tile flooring, and a bamboo roof. It features two large windows—one facing the front and one facing the side—offering views of the front garden, the Imbabura volcano, and the town center of Cotacachi. It has a private patio with a table and hammock under a roof, providing a spectacular view. The room includes two light bulbs and fiber optic internet. It is located 10 meters from the communal road, past the car park. Three meters down the terrace is a rustic tilapia pond with aquatic plants and lighting. The room is 12 meters from the main house but 4 meters above ground level due to the topography of Tunibamba and the Andes Mountains. This elevation ensures privacy without needing to close the curtains, thus preserving the privileged view from the room. It is important to note that the room does not have a private bathroom. The bathroom and shower with hot water are 30 meters away, near the camping area and the common area called "La Playita." The area is considered very safe, so we've never used keys, but volunteers are welcome to use them for added security. The path has streetlights, and the nearest neighbors are across the street, 50 meters away. My sister lives 50 meters further up the road, behind the room. The room has natural light thanks to the large windows, and at night it's lit by electricity (both internal and external lighting). It has a double mattress, a nightstand, a reading lamp, and a wardrobe. Due to the proximity of the water channel and the surrounding vegetation, there are many mosquitoes, so we've provided mosquito netting. The room will undoubtedly be a comfortable space. Regarding meals, we have no restrictions; three meals a day are provided, including coffee (Western style) or herbal tea. If you are vegetarian or vegan, we can accommodate your dietary needs, but please remember that this is a farm. We can take turns preparing the food to create enriching flavors and experiences. Because of my life in other countries, my dishes are varied, yet simple.
  
  El alojamiento es una habitacion de 4x5m. de ladrillo visto, piso de cerámica, techo de bambú, con dos ventanas grandes ; una frontal y otra lateral que permiten ver el jardín frontal, el volcan Imbabura y el centro de la ciudad de Cotacachi, tiene un patio privado con su mesa y hamaca bajo el techo con una vista espectacular, cuenta con dos focos e internet fibra óptica . Está ubicada a 10 metros del camino comunal, luego del garage para coches, en frente a 3metros terraza abajo está un estanque rustico de tilapia con plantas acuáticas e iluminación. La habitación está a 12 metros frente a la casa principal pero a 4 metros de altura por la topografía de Tunibamba y los andes, lo que ayuda a tener privacidad sin la necesidad de cerrar las cortinas para no perder la vista privilegiada desde la habitación. Cabe recalcar que la habitación no tiene baño privado. El baño y la ducha con agua caliente están a 30 metros , cerca del área de camping y el área común llamado " la playita"
  El sector es considerado muy seguro por lo que nunca hemos utilizado llaves, pero el voluntario puede hacer uso para mayor seguridad. El camino tiene iluminación pública y los vecinos más cercanos están cruzando la calle a 50m, y la otra es mi hermana que vive a 50 m más arriba detrás de la habitación.
  La habitación tiene iluminación natural por qué recibe la luz solar por las grandes ventanas y las noches por electricidad (iluminación interna y externa), tienen un colchón matrimonial , una mesita de noche, lampara de lectura , y un guarda ropa. Por la cercanía del canal del agua y el estar rodeado de vegetación hay abundantes mosquitos para lo cual lo adaptamos con toldos. Sin duda la habitación será una zona de confort.
  Respecto a las comidas, no tenemos ninguna restricción, son tres comidas por día, incluye la hora del café al estilo occidental o una aromática. Si usted es vegetariano o vegano podemos ajustarlo a su realidad, pero recuerde que es una granja. Podemos turnamos en preparar los alimentos para tener sabores y experiencias enriquecedoras. Por la vida que he llevado en otros países, mis platos son variados, pero sencillos.

  What else ...

  In your free time, you can go out into the city to visit the various specialty coffee shops, which are very popular with expats, international restaurants, and traditional food courts. Also, on Saturdays, you can visit the indigenous craft fair in Otavalo, visit the Peguche waterfall, visit Cuicocha lagoon, and in the afternoon go to the Chachimbiro hot springs or simply take a walk along the slopes and the sacred site known as the Temple of the Sun and the spring on communal land.
  
  En su tiempo libre puede salir a la ciudad a visitar los distintos cafés de especialidad que son muy concurridos por los expats, restaurantes de comida internacional y patios de comida tradicional. Así mismo los Sábados puede visitar la feria artesanal indígena en Otavalo, visitar la cascada de Peguche, visitar la laguna de Cuicocha, por la tarde ir a las termas de Chachimbiro o simplemente salir a caminar por la vertiente y el sitio sagrado conocido como templo del sol y la vertiente en la propiedad comunal.
