We are in need of an experienced english teacher for the 3 indigenous children that live here at the farm. The right teacher should have taught children english before, and they respond better to folks that speak at least conversational spanish. We ask 10 hours of class a week, and there are other tasks for you here at the farm.
We ask a commitment of at least a month.
Most of the foreign residents will not be present here at the farm during your time here. You should be comfortable and happy being on your own here.
I am looking for people who are interested in becoming a part of this project. If you are looking for a free place to stay for a bit, or are emailing everyone in hopes anyone bites please do us all a favor and do not apply. Please consider that carefully. This is not just a chocolate factory, or just a farm, this is a living and growing community, a special place for learning and sharing.
We have just purchased a beautiful 11 acre farm just outside of Barbosa, Antioquia. We are an organic bean to bar chocolate factory, and will turn this farm into a hotel and retreat center. I also work with the Sacred Medicines of Colombia.
This land has been taken care of with love by the same family for 40 years. Its is full of exotic plants, butterflies, birds and iguanas. There are 11 acres to wander, a river to swim in, a bamboo forest, plant nursery and many fruit trees. There are mandarinas, bananas, guanabanas, limons, naranjas.
There is an indigenous family from the Arhuaca tribe of the Sierra Nevada living on the farm and helping with chocolate. Esther is in charge of the factory and doesn't speak english. Volunteers help teach the kids (3) english and swimming.
We have a pair of rare geese, some indian runner ducks we keep for eggs, a dog, and a BIG puppy, some very furry pet chickens, black swans, some white peacocks, and a few cats.
The chocolate factory produces chocolate, cacao products and beauty products from organic ingredients. We are bean to bar, we process the beans that we get direct from farmers throughout colombia in our small factory. We offer weekly tours to learn about chocolate and also experience the beauty of land.
This is a place for writers, meditators, yoga people and folks looking to enjoy the land. This is not a party place, and heavy drinkers are not allowed. We prefer non-smokers, but if you are a smoker, you must do so away from the house and public areas.

This is an excellent opportunity to learn about chocolate if you are interested, or building and construction skills and permaculture. This is not the place to go to if you are only looking to save money on accommodations for a week. We are looking for people that are serious about helping to build things, people that are looking for a chance to see the beauty of Colombia.
Helpers can choose a path, or work on both. There is general cleaning work, cooking, gardening to be done. I expect that interns will be flexible and willing to help out wherever is needed. I could also use help with internet marketing and website stuff.
I have a vegetable garden that needs some serious loving.
All helpers are expected to give 3 one hour lessons in english to the children per week.
We have work in chocolate, you will learn all the aspects of chocolate making. I expect these helpers to stay at least a month, as there is a lot to learn. We also hold weekly tours, and these are held in English. The interns are taught to make chocolate in English.
There may be additional tasks that need to be done, like caring for the animals, collecting eggs, taking care of the pool, and cleaning house (we have a maid, but not full time).
We provide ingredients for your breakfast, which will include some fresh eggs, fruit from the land, rice. You need to be prepared to pay for and cook your own meals. Only breakfast ingredients are included, no other meals are included, and you need to prepare this breakfast yourself. NO MEALS are prepared for you.
There is a swimming hole at the river and a great rock for sunning.
There is a swimming pool, but we need to be respectful of guests that are paying to stay here. This applies to all the public areas.
We have only satellite internet, which is crazy expensive, so if you need access to the internet, there is a fee. We get some signal from Movistar and tigo. There is a restaurant down the hill with internet, you will need to go there.
There is lots of things to see in the area, coffee farms, sugar farms, waterfalls, nature hikes. Barbosa is a cute little pueblo with shopping and restaurants and bars.
We are on a main road, there are buses that pass every hour or so to take you to barbosa where you can get a bus to Medellin. There is a small store and restaurant within walking distance.
Limited internet access
We have pets
We are smokers
