  • Description

Hi Workawayers, we are an NGO that supports education and other humanitary aid in poorer regions of cambodia. We are looking for volunteers that want to work at our School in the rural area outside of Phnom Penh. The school offers english classes especially for poorer children that can't afford the high fees for the private schools in Cambodia. We would highly benefit from having volunteers, since 1. it is hard to find many qualified english teachers so it would be really good if volunteers could support the teachers we have and 2. many parents believe, that the teaching quality is better when volunteers are at the school so they are more likely to send their kids to study instead of letting them work from a very young age on.

For volunteers it is a great opportunity to have impact, grow personally and get a wonderful and authentic experience! We appreciate any idea for new classes, e.g. sports and computers and hope to provide the kids with the most education possible.

The long-term vision for the school is, to turn it into a community center in order to enhance the situation of the whole community, raise the general knowledge level and give all children the chance to have a good future.

Travelers will learn a lot about Cambodian culture, food and history, since the people within the community around the school are very welcoming and love to get in touch with foreigners. It's an out-of-the-comfort zone experience to go shopping at local markets and take care of yourself in a foreign countries.

  • Help

    We need volunteers that:
    - support the teachers with english classes
    - teach computer classes (how to use a computer)
    - teach sports classes
    - support the school manager with social media efforts
    - make the school a better place for everyone with new ideas

Furthermore, the volunteers need to run their daily life e.g. cooking and washing by themselves, however, all needed facilities are provided like a fully equipped kitchen.

The volunteers live in the school building, but seperated from the classrooms. There is one shared dorm with currently 4 beds, a fully equipped kitchen with everything you need, bathroom facilities with running water and a library/office, where volunteers can hang out. There a fans at the ceiling and many windows for fresh air, mosquito nets are also provided.

If anything else is needed, the volunteers can always talk to the general manager.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

There is a motorbike and bicycles available to get around the area, e.g. to the local market and Amazon Café (which is like a cheap Starbucks)
The school is a 40-60min TukTuk ride outside of Phnom Penh - so it's very easy to go to the city for the weekend (or somewhere else if you want to travel around). The school manager can organize a TukTuk for you.

Volunteers can stay at the school on weekends, but since there is not class, we recommend visition Phnom Penh or other cities in Cambodia such as Siem Reap. If you want to take one day off (Friday maybe) for travelling, you can talk to the school manager about this and it won't be a problem.

There are beautiful Pagodas and a massive lake nearby you can visit - or just relax in the sunny weather :)
