Hello,

Jake and I live on a cattle station in the Far North of South Australia, approx 10 hours from Adelaide and 5 hours from Alice Springs - We are looking for workawayers to come and stay with us, help out around the place and experience what life is like in the outback!

Jobs will include;
*Gardening
*Help with our 3 children
*Helping with general station work: checking cattle waters, repairing fences, helping install new water points etc
*General help around the house - cooking and cleaning
*Cattle work - feeding the calves

We can help you to learn how to do station work; ride a motorbike, ride a horse and put up a fence.

You'll get too see plenty of wildlife; kangaroos, emus and feral animals that are wondering around e.g. camels and wild horses

People are welcome either on their own or couples

It is very remote where we live so if you like to go to the pub every night then this might not be the place but we can make sure there is a cold beer at the end of the day.

We also eat lots and lots of beef…so vegetarians might go hungry!

The Greyhound Bus drives past the property entrance every day

All through the winter months; April - September there is local shows on, Gymkhanas, Bronco Branding, Campdrafts which you would be welcome to attend with us

I stayed with Frankie, Jack, Honey und three cute little puppies for 3 weeks. Unfortunately I missed the busy season but still enjoying my stay. They are great people.

We wanted to experience life on an Australian cattle station - and that is exacly what we got. It hasn't been a holiday or a fabricated "experience", every day has been a case of doing what's needed for that day. Sometimes more ordinary like decorating rooms and sometimes much more unusual and exciting (by our limited experience) such as checking and repairing fencing in a 90 square kilometer paddock on our own. Sometimes the work is light; on other days it can be quite demanding. Whilst the days can be long, the kettle is always ready to go on to boil and there is lovely filling food throughout the day.
Frankie and Jake have big plans for their station and willingly share their dreams and knowledge (which is extensive). There is a massive amount of work to do and they set the example that you share in. It has been tremendously motivating and rewarding to know that everything we have done or been involved in, has been a meaningful contribution to their plans. The station is very remote and isolated but the night skies are fantastic. There is no time to get bored if you grab every opportunity to join in and try new things out or even 'old' things in a different environment. There are events taking place in the wider area but it may be as well to check before arrival what is on.
Because this is a working station, at lot of what is going on is seasonal work. Unfortunately there was no mustering whilst we were here because it was the wrong time of year (Frankie did tell us this before we came so if there's something that you particularly want to do, it would be best to check with her first). However, we had many bonfires, camp-fires with bush tucker and overnights under the stars in swags (heavy duty canvas bags into which you put your bedding/sleeping bag). We would love to return one day and see how all the plans are coming together through their hard work and the efforts of their helpers.
As mentioned, the station is seriously remote, even with your own transport, so if you are not content to read, watch TV and/or go to bed early, this may not be the right place for you. If this doesn't worry you and you are happy to throw yourself fully in to station lifestyle, most daylight hours of most days, then you will have an unforgetable and hugely rewarding time. Frankie and Jake have been excellent workaway hosts, friendly and helpful, patient and supportive in our attempts to learn new skills. Always ready and willing to talk and discuss any concerns or explain their plans whilst eager to listen and be open to other ideas . We loved all of it, including 3 super dogs! We would love to spend more time here with them and would recommend it to anyone wanting to experience the real outback station way of life.
