    Description

Im an Irish/English musician living in Portugal and I have recently acquired a nice plot of land where I hope to create an off grid living experience. There are lots of fruit trees, grape vines, chestnut trees and sometimes wild boar passing through! Its in the middle of the forest on the outskirts of Pedrogao Grande, a small town in the central countryside of Portugal. I used to have a smaller project in the canary islands where I was just beginning to experiment with some of the ideas I learnt on a Permaculture design course that I had recently completed. Now I have swapped that small project for a much larger piece of land hidden away in a forest in central/north Portugal where there is water supplied by an underground water mine and there are a couple of buildings to restore and a variety of quite mature trees, including olive, cork, peach, etc.

I really need some help as soon as possible doing some building, carpentry, fencing and roofing. If anyone out there would like to have a lovely time in the countryside, living in an old cottage, being given homecooked veggie food, doing a few hours of skilled work each week, with days off to go swimming in the reservoir and exploring the area, then please get in touch!

Im still setting up my new profile here and I will add some more photos and other details as soon as I can.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We have an interesting community of locals and people who have moved to the area and are starting interesting projects who you can meet at local events and we sometimes have music sessions in the local bar and I could even teach you a bit of guitar or mandolin! I am a beginner enthusiast when it comes to permaculture and we can perhaps get inspiration from each other trying out new projects on the land!

  • Help

    Help

I would love help getting the land converted into an off grid eco farm and creating compost toilets, an outside camping kitchen, water and solar systems etc. There are plenty of trees and vines that need tending to and I need help starting a veggie garden. There is plenty of work for anyone who can do any form of building and construction type handy skills.
There is a fence that needs to be completely restored and improved to keep the wild boar out of the orchard/veggie garden and there is water tank to repair/rebuild and I am open to the idea of building a bio-pool with fish, in an aquaponics kind of way and any other ideas you might have.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

You can visit the local river beaches. go for walks in forests, see the sites in the beautiful historic city of Coimbra an hour's drive away or just hang out in the local cafe bar where you could mix with locals and internationals and make friends over a drink, its 10 mins walk away. There are some buses but we are a little bit out in the sticks so things move at a slower pace, but I can always drop you at the local bus station in Pedrogao Grande and perhaps take you a bit further in the car if we fancy a day out together!
