  • Description

    Description

    Hello and welcome to Göttingen!
I am Oleg, living in a quiet flat in Göttingen, an old university town in central Germany, 130.000 inhabitants.

I speak German, English and Russian. I am an IT person and
work on ideas for social web projects that help people meet in real life: for friendship, mutual help, volunteering, sharing and a simpler, less lonely way of living.
In less official language: I am somewhere between a programmer, a city-guide-
    in-training and a philosophical pedestrian.

This is not a farm, not a hostel and not a renovation project. I live not far away from city center(15 min), offer a calm private guest room, a simple household, a balcony, walks, conversations and a cultural exchange.
Göttingen is small enough to feel human and large enough not to become boring after one afternoon. I can show you the old town, university buildings, Forum Wissen, small cinemas, student theatre, museums, public lectures, cafés,
alternative places and walking routes by the river, to the Kiessee and into
    the nearby forests.
This stay may suit a calm, adult traveller who enjoys walks, cooking, theaters / cinemas, culture, language exchange, old university towns and simple everyday life more than luxury or party tourism.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

I can help you practise German and explain everyday life in Germany: language, culture, history, politics, bureaucracy, university-town life and
small local habits that are impossible to learn from a textbook.
I enjoy long walks and conversations. I usually walk 1–2 hours: to nearby Göttingen forests, along the
river, to the Kiessee or through green areas.
Guests are welcome to join if they enjoy walking and slow conversations.

I can also show you Göttingen’s cultural side: we can go on Fridays to board game evening, Forum Wissen, Stadtmuseum, small cunemas Lumière and Méliès, university cinema when available, THOP student theatre, public lectures, cafés, Foyer International(its from university they have many activities), KHG/ESG activities and
    alternative cultural places.

If you like ideas, I can show you my vibe coded social web projects and you give me feedback. They are about using AI not to replace people, but to help people meet, cooperate, share, volunteer and build a more solidary everyday life.

  • Help

    Help

The help is light and flexible: around 6–10 hours per week.

    Possible help:
    - cooking a simple meal, especially something traditional from your country if you enjoy cooking
    - watering plants
    - occasional vacuum cleaning
    - (sometime) buying groceries from the nearby supermarket(of course helper will not contribute financially towards groceries, I will provide money for it)
    - once: helping me bring a few not-too-heavy things to the cellar and make the flat a bit more organised
    - small ideas to make the flat nicer: flowers, a rug, small second-hand
things from flea markets, Kleinanzeigen or local shops
    - maybe(if you like) painting one small wall white
    - optional: trying with me together a small creative project together, for example simple pallet furniture for the balcony or a simple bed construction
Of course helper will not need to contribute financially towards anything for interior items I need to buy.

There is no heavy work. The tasks can be adapted to what you enjoy and what feels realistic. Walks and cultural activities are more part of the exchange than “work”.

  • Languages

    Languages spoken
    German: Fluent
    Russian: Fluent
    English: Intermediate

This host offers a language exchange
I am happy to help with German practice. You can also teach me a few words from your language, especially food words, because food vocabulary is usually more useful than abstract philosophy before dinner.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

You will have your own private, quiet guest room with a bed, desk and a window looking into green surroundings.
The kitchen and bathroom are shared. The bathroom has a shower, no bathtub.

The flat has a large balcony facing the courtyard, with a sofa / sitting area for reading, tea, talking or doing absolutely nothing.
The flat is simple, calm and not luxurious. It is best for someone who likes a quiet base near city center, some independence and friendly exchange.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

In your free time you can easily explore Göttingen’s old town, cafés, university places, small cinemas, museums, student theatre, public lectures and green walking routes.

My home is well connected by public transport. You can walk to the city centre in about 15 minutes, to university areas in about 10 minutes, or take one of several buses from stops about 5 minutes from home. The city centre, university and train station are easy to reach, usually within around 20 minutes. From the station or by local buses, you can also explore more remote areas around Göttingen.

Possible activities together, depending on time and interest:
    - walk to the river, Kiessee or forest
    - visit Forum Wissen or Stadtmuseum
    - go to a small cinema or university cinema
    - attend a public lecture
    - visit student / international cultural events
    - board games evening
    - cook and exchange stories about our countries
    - small trip by bus or train to nearby nature or lakes

Göttingen is not Berlin, but it has the advantage that one can still hear one’s own thoughts.
