    Description

Located in the beautiful north peace region of Alberta our 87-acre farm is our dream come true. Wanting to get back to basics we left the rat race and the big city to learn how to homestead. And we are still learning every day. We would love to have you join us on our journey. We breed pure Tamworth pigs (they make great bacon), raise heritage-mixed breed turkeys and Rhode island red chickens, all on pasture. We are working on an orchard and have started with raspberries, haskaps, apple & plum trees. We have gardened with some success and are starting some Hugelkultur raised beds in the spring of 2018 plus we are starting a 3-sisters garden project and regular garden beds. Our farm is a work in progress, rustic and a little remote.

There is always lots to do here with the regular daily chores of taking care of the animals, weeding and garden maintenance, wood chopping/splitting, wood & tin crafts, bird house/feeder maintenance, duck pond maintenance, trail maintenance and much more.

You will have your own sleeping quarters in a trailer in a nice secluded area just set up for volunteers in the forest on our property. Includes your own shower accommodations as well as minimal kitchen facilities as most meals are taken with us in the main house. We are non-vegetarian, and eat as much as possible what we grow or raise on the farm or what we barter for.

Besides the beauty and enjoyment of our farm the surrounding area offers lots for an outdoor enthusiast and traveller. We are located right on the highway that leads to Dawson Creek, BC and Mile Zero of the Alaska Highway. There are many local museums, parks, lakes, and walking trails to enjoy. We are a 15 minute drive from the nearest village, Hythe, and it is a 1/2 hour drive to Dawson Creek, BC and an hour drive to Grande Prairie, Alberta. If you want to go in to town regularly it might be difficult without your own transportation. We are in town occasionally for errands like grocery shopping, banking etc. We can provide rides on occasion. In the immediate area you can explore a little and see some nature, jog some back country roads and there is a small lake within a two minute walk. In the past with other workaways and wwoofers we have taken them on days off to see some tourist stuff and it has been enjoyable.

We can occasionally provide transportation for some leisure activities however we are a distance from town so a vehicle would be good to have. We are a 15 minute drive from the nearest village, Hythe, and it is a 1/2 hour drive to Dawson Creek, BC and an hour drive to Grande Prairie, Alberta.
