    Description

Hello All, my name is Robin. I live alone (though I have regular friends and family visiting) in my eco-home on a small hobby farm with a view of the incredible Bay of Fundy (the highest tides in the world).

I work full-time hours from home. But when I'm not at my computer, I'm often outside working on one of the many projects on my long long long to do list.

I don't currently have any animals, but I have a pretty big orchard, a few beds of garlic and LOTS of berry bushes which will be ready and ripe to pick, depending on the time of year.

The home has three bedrooms and is both passive solar and actual solar, meaning that (if you don't count the wood stove) we are completely carbon neutral!

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

I have lots of experience with work and cultural exchange. I'm a former Workawayer and I even grew up on a farm that hosted volunteers.

I've used other platforms and had my own exciting travels. I also know the local area well and would be happy to show you the incredible Bay of Fundy. I'd be happy to exchange travel stories, talk about Canadian culture and learn a bit about where you're from.

I am by no means an expert, but I certainly have some skills to share. I know my way around the hammer or drill and can pass along some knowledge. If you come with some skills, I would also be very happy to learn from you.

  • Help

    Help

I'm currently excited to tackle a number of tasks on my to do list including: pruning the apple trees, fixing the drywall in various spots around the house, cutting up and lugging firewood, mulching the flower beds, tidying up the the old chicken pens, and more!

We can work together during the weekends and in the evening, while normal weekday hours you'll be mostly tackling projects alone. That said, my work is flexible, so I can always step away from my computer to answer questions or help out during a break.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

I have a lovely room in my home with a comfortable queen bed and a big window.

If I end up accepting a second person, they would stay in a not-quite-as-charming basement space, which is still very nice, but has a few more spiders.

In general, dinners and some lunches will be shared, with the responsibilities for cooking alternating between everyone. For those meals that are not shared, the guests are welcome to take from the pantry as needed to make their own lunches and breakfasts. Meals will be healthy and filling, and we can even go shopping together if there are ingredients you'd like for a meal you'd like to make.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Once the helping day is done, there are tons of things to do in the area. The Bay of Fundy is stunning and there are lots of great beaches and hiking trails. If you stay long enough we may even be able to do the famed Thomas Cove tide-walk - it'll blow your mind! There are lots of beautiful trails here on the property that run alongside a beautiful stream, and under century old crab apples. It's just lovely. And if we feel like staying in, and we are both feeling social (I can be very introverted at times) then we can break out one of the many board games in my extensive collection.

A man smiles for a selfie outdoors in a snowy landscape. Bare trees and a rustic wooden house are visible in the bright winter background.
A woven basket filled with wild mushrooms and a container of berries rests on grass, surrounded by greenery and two pairs of sandaled feet, suggesting foraging.
A group of people wade in shallow, reddish-brown water under a blue sky with clouds. Driftwood rests in the foreground, with trees visible in the distance.
People gather around a tall bonfire at night in a wooded area. Shadows and silhouettes are cast by the flames. Trees frame the festive scene.
A rustic wooden house with large windows and a green metal roof stands amid overgrown shrubs and trees, sunlight illuminating its weathered exterior on a clear day.
Two hands are slicing a dark red apple on a wooden cutting board. Apple seeds, pieces, and more whole apples are visible. The scene appears outdoors.
A person is building a wooden structure outdoors, hammering a beam into place. The frame is surrounded by green plants and tools are lying on the ground.
A cozy, dimly lit entryway with a wood stove, scattered boots, jackets, and bags. Stairs rise on the left, windows and lamp bring warmth.
A person wearing glasses, a hat, and a tank top holds a metal container of blueberries outdoors. Green trees and blue sky fill the sunny background.
A person sits at a rustic wooden table under an open-air wooden shelter in the forest. Sunlight filters through trees, creating a peaceful, natural atmosphere.
This cozy bedroom features a large bed with a red floral-patterned quilt, bedside lamp, white walls, a window with curtains, and a closet door.
Four people stand together on a sandy, coastal beach with shallow water, looking down. The landscape is open, with clear blue sky and distant rocks.
