    Description

We are a big family living on a gorgeous island! We have a private room with its own entrance and an ocean view for you to stay in.

We live in a house in our small town, Sointula.
15 minutes drive away we have a property we are developing to live at. It’s an off-grid acreage with amazing ocean views, secluded woods, lots of quiet, a beautiful hike to the beach, and goats, rabbits and chickens to feed and bond with!

Our house that we are building is at the stage where we are finishing up wall panelling and doing finishing work. It’s a big and open house with nice views and lots of light, so very nice to work in.

The types of help we need are: building/finishing, childcare, building structures (out buildings such as wood sheds and little cabins and outdoor kitchen etc) , landscaping, setting up off-grid systems, firewood, light vehicle repairs, help with cooking and cleaning, etc.

We are willing to pay for extra hours if you are interested in doing extra work.

We also have campers at our property that you can stay in, if you prefer the quiet nature vibe over living in town.

We have a large sailboat, so we can take you out in our local waters, which offer some of the best whale watching opportunities on the west coast.

Our island is called Malcolm Island, and it has the town of Sointula on it. It is a destination for lovers of nature and wildlife with tons of hiking and quiet and privacy. People come from all over to spend time here, but still it’s not very busy even during high season.

Our family is fun loving and our kids are outgoing and friendly. They range in age from 1.5 to 11 years old. They love to play outside and on the many beaches we have here, jump on the trampoline, ride their bikes and do art.

I (Paul) am a boat captain who has been working in tourism for years and my wife (Amielle) is a dynamo of energy and love who has done many things in her life, from circus and dance to opening a brewery in our native city of Montreal, and her own welding and fine art metalwork shop for years, in her previous life.

We think that the right fit for workaways for us would be a couple (or a duo of friends) who are interested in doing a diverse range of different projects. There are many different things to do, so no need to get bored doing the same thing for too long.

We love people and cultures and we love to be together and outside and enjoying life. We try to live a healthy lifestyle with good food and clean living, but we are relaxed and like to have fun and party too!
