This is a social project that aims to bring hope, self love and opportunities to children and young population from Pantanal (wetland region of Brazil) through language practice, arts and education.
This Project is a reflection of memory of Sebastião - well known as Sabá - who educated his 6 sons and 2 daughters with all love and respect during his journey on earth from 1928 till 1996.
The mentioned love and respect is a legacy that the project wants to spread to this local community that was recently affected by the biggest wildfire of the century in Pantanal. Also, have one of the lowest human development index in Brazil, beside the fact the region is full gold mining and cattle production which results in a huge environmental and economic unequality.
This social was idealized by (me) Flávio, youngest Sabá son who moved to Poconé in 2018 to teach geography in a local school. After it, late 2019, I started to give capoeira lessons to poor kids in two local neighboorhoods. Finally, Last year (2020) I received an invitation to help a local community center that is supporting the most needy families, it was when I decided to create the project and encompass more persons by remodelling and old house where a class is prepared to receive students as soon as the covid-19 give us a break.
Meanwhile, the project is focused on supporting families with food, personal hygiene products, maintance of the center community and the house, final house remodelling and selection of kids and young population.
So, if you feel like helping this project, you can teach english (mainly, but.. why not other foreign language?), help in the maintance, any kind of arts to kids, teenagers and youngs and help in the action plan to 2021-2022.
We hope that you can come and help us, certainly you gonna fall in love for our culture, love, food and kindness. Feel yourself invited and welcome to meet the best that Sabá left to us!
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
The Pantanal region one of the most visited sights in South America. Here, you will understand how do local communities are connect with the flow of the wetlands. Also, you will understand the dimension of scale of Brazil, since the city where the project is located is in the opposite side of the biggest cities, so, the culture, accent, livelihoods are very specific, so interesting to those who loves to meet new ways of life. If you get interested, we can also give you fishing, capoeira and drum first step lessons.
We need teachers and educators or any kind of person who likes to interact with kids and young population. If you can.. of course.. you will also help in the maintance of the house the community center.

The room will be disposed to volunteers. As you could see the house is under a remodeling situation. For now you can have a shared room and bathroom, but in the close-future we plan to have more options. The food supplies we can plan together, I'm flexible, but we can make a plan to share some expenses.
The project is located in the City of Poconé, very close to the main square where you can find restaurants, markets, medical care and much more. We dont have trains or uber, we do have taxi but it is expensive to use inside the city. We have 2 (two) bicycles that you can use.
