    Description

We are a small family living on the beautiful island of Teshima in Kagawa, Japan. Teshima is known as one of the “Art Islands” of the Seto Inland Sea, surrounded by nature, quiet beaches, and a warm local community. It’s a peaceful place where you can enjoy a slower pace of life, stunning coastal scenery, and unique contemporary art.

We are a family of three, living together with two goats and 17 chickens, enjoying a simple and nature-connected lifestyle.

Our family returned to Teshima after spending many years abroad, and we now run a small hospitality business with several private villas and a restaurant. We are passionate about sharing the island lifestyle with visitors from around the world.

However, for this opportunity, we are simply looking to welcome someone into our family life rather than seeking help with our business.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We see this experience as a true cultural exchange and would love to share aspects of our daily life on Teshima with you.

You may have opportunities to interact with local residents and experience the warm, close-knit community that makes the island special.

In return, we would love for you to share your language, culture, and perspectives with us—especially through time spent with our son. This creates a natural and relaxed environment for mutual learning and language exchange.

If you are interested, we are also happy to introduce you to some of the island’s art spaces, nature spots, and hidden corners, so you can enjoy Teshima beyond your daily help.

We hope this will be a meaningful exchange where both sides can learn from each other and create lasting memories.

  • Help

    Help

We are looking for someone who would enjoy becoming a part of our daily family life and supporting us in a relaxed, home-based setting.

We have an 8-year-old son, and we are looking for a friendly, responsible Workawayer who can naturally fit into our routine and spend meaningful time with him.

    Your main tasks would be:
•Picking up our son from school in the afternoon
•Spending time together and helping with English in a natural, fun way
•Preparing a simple dinner for the family
•Helping with light household tasks such as cleaning and laundry

The help is needed for a maximum of 4–5 hours per day, 5 days a week.

We would prefer someone with an educational background (such as teaching, childcare, or similar experience), and who enjoys working with children in a patient and engaging way.

A minimum stay of 1 month is required so that both our son and the Workawayer can build a comfortable and meaningful relationship.

We would love to welcome someone who is warm, reliable, and interested in experiencing daily life in a Japanese family on a small island. In return, you will have the chance to live in a unique and inspiring place, connect with locals, and enjoy the beauty of Teshima.

If you like nature, art, and a calm island lifestyle, we think you’ll really love it here.

    Accommodation

We offer a private room in our house or in a nearby house.

Regarding meals, we aim to keep things flexible and fair. If you are preparing dinner for the family, you are welcome to cook and enjoy your own meal at the same time using the same ingredients.

Breakfast is self-prepared. If your helping hours overlap with lunchtime, we will provide simple ingredients for lunch, such as sandwich items.

We hope this arrangement allows for a good balance between independence and support during your stay.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Teshima is a small and quiet island, so we recommend enjoying your time off by exploring the island by bicycle or on foot. There are beautiful beaches, scenic viewpoints, and unique art installations to discover.

Please note that there are very few shops on the island and no Supermarkets or convenience stores, so it’s best to plan ahead when it comes to groceries or personal items.

We value a calm and respectful home environment. Basic consideration such as keeping shared spaces tidy, being mindful of noise levels, and communicating your schedule in advance is appreciated.

As island life can be slower and less convenient than in cities, we hope you will come with an open mind and enjoy the simplicity and charm of living here.
