WANTED: ENTHOUSIASTIC VOLUNTEERS TO HELP OUT AT OUR ORGANIC FARM

On our organic farm in Le Marche (Italy) with 6 ha of
agricultural land, a river and 1 ha of forest, we have been busy -since
december 2014- with setting up a business on the principles of organic/ bio-dynamic farming and permaculture.

We are Filipe (36, portugese) and Sophie (29,Dutch) and we are working hard at our working organic farm. Besides the farm we also run a non profit organization that promotes sustainable living and eating. We organize fun workshops and events, culinary tastings and much more. We aim to cook with mainly our own products and are passionate about animal welfare, organic growing and GOOD FOOD!

Since 2014 we have accomplished quite a bit with help of our family and many great volunteers. We raise pigs for meat, chickens, turkeys and keep bees. All on a considerably small scale.
    We have a 2 vegetable gardens of 2500 m2 and a herb-garden of 400 m2 with 60 types of medicinal and
culinary herbs. On top of that we have 3 ha for a cashcrop

We are working hard to increase our production of our own vegetables, fruit, eggs and meat.

We are situated 30 minutes from the Adriatic Sea, at 300-400 meter height in the rolling hills of Le Marche. Lots of sun, but fortunately also rain. The soil is lime and a recent analysis showed that the soil is free of pesticides and herbicides.

We are looking for volunteers who will work hard and are looking for a great team experience. We provide you with room and board in our comfortable farm (own rooms with shared bathroom; sometimes you need to pair up in a room in the busy season and three meals a day). It is important to want to learn though work seeing as that is what we focus on on the farm. There is joy to be found in accomplishing tasks togehter with the team and you, if you want to join us, should come for the experience of the farm. Not with the desire to travel and explore the area... Because you will find there is little time for this, and you will be dissapointed.

If you are looking forward to getting your hands dirty and learn the ins and outs of a running an organic farm, a non profit organization and a big household then this is the place for you!

Here are some of the things you will be doing as a workawayer staying with us, in order of frequency.

    1) daily farm chores:
    - maintaining our vegetable and herb gardens (weeding, sowing, planting, harvesting, washing, drying, conserving)
    - taking care of the animals (feeding, watering, cleaning pens, weeding the electrical fencing,
strip-grazing, sowing the meadows, bee-keeping etc.)

    2) daily household chores
    - general housework (this everyone shares and is not part of the workhours, cleaning the house, cooking daily meals for the team, washing up etc.)
    - cooking for the entire team, eventhough we are chefs we have a lot of work to do on the land enjoy the idea of other people cooking for us as well. So if you are someone that knows how to run a household (doing some laundry, cleaning and cooking) don't hesitate to contact us.

    3) bigger farm projects or more seasonal stuff
    - building fences for fruit hedges
    - creating new vegetable plots
    - composting and making new beds
    - sowing and planting new gardens
    - harvesting

    4) If you would like to become a member of our associazion you can also help out with the organizing of events, participate in them and see in which other ways you can contribute to the cause! Of course this is totally voluntarily and in no way obligatory!

PEOPLE WE ARE LOOKING FOR SPECIFICALLY:
    - People that know how to cook for the group (we are usually around 6-8) and enjoy doing so because running a big household of 6 - 12 people is definitly easier with good food :)
    - People who have skills in construction/ mechanics and know how to re-purpose old stuff. We would love to repurpose more!
    - People who have experience in organic farming to shed some light on our famr and give us some helpfull tips and suggestions!
    - People who have skills in the field of pr (computer skills, social media pr). We are far from proffesionals!
    - People who are good at organising and cleaning, we are always cleaning since the house is full at all times and we need people to help keep it neat!
    - people that enjoy just working hard without to much responsibility. They find pleasure in hard work and don't mind other people giving out orders.

In our free time we like to make home made pizza's, have bbq's and relax after satisfying but hard work :) We have 3 bicycles which you can use to cycle to nearby towns or you can make nice hikes in our area on your free day.

We hope to hear from you! let us know how old you are, briefly what your
motivation is and what kind of experience you have (no experience is not a bad thing).

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Here you get a first hand look at what it takes to run a very diverse mixed organic farm, a big household and a non profite orgaization. You will learn a lot about organic farming through doing the work that is needed in order to call it a farm. People that learn most here are the ones that activly ask questions and have a hands on attitude! Also animal care is a big part of the day to day. Learning how to functon well in a team. We rely heavily on teamwork. Your cooking skills will improve here, at least if you already have some experience (we do unfortunatly not teach cooking to people that have never cooked and do not show specific interest in it.. it is unfortunatly too time consuming). We love to talk to people that are passionate about food though! It is a great place to get to appreciate hard work and see immidiate results. You will learn what it takes to run a big household! Another important part of this experience is the skill to listen to the people that have been here longer then you no matter there age or gender.

Of course you do not have to have all these skills. We are looking to put together a group of people who compliment eachother well. Keep in mind that eventhough you might have a specific skill, this doesn't necessarily mean you will be doing only that type of work.

    What else ...

The beach is 2 bussrides away, as are the lovely cities Fermo and Ascoli Piceno. We have 3 mountainbikes and the natural reserve Monte Sibillini is an hour away. Not many, but there are busses, and we are willing to provide transport every now and then if we will be driving that way and the number of people in the house permit us to take you :) But keep in mind, you are on a farm in a small village; no big nightlife around/ you have to enjoy the fact that you are in nature! If you like to play games! We are in big favour of playing games together
