Description
We are an active couple in our late 50s who love to hike, travel and drink good coffee. We have a small farm, on a lake, on Salt Spring Island on the West Coast of Canada, where we raise sheep and chickens and grow fruit and vegetables.
Salt Spring Island is a gorgeous spot where there are many stunning forest, mountain, and beach hikes and a small artistic community of about 12000 full time residents.
We love our piece of paradise, but with it come many jobs so we would like to share our home with someone who would like to help.Types of help and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We love to meet people from other cultures and learn about theirs while sharing ours. We are happy to help you practice English while learning some of your language too.
We are very connected to our community and can take you to, or suggest many events and activities that make Salt Spring a unique place.Help
This Spring we will be building a wood shed and stacking wood; doing a bit of fencing to keep deer out of our yard; planting the garden and doing general upkeep to the property. If time permits we will be doing upkeep and repair at our lake access and dock
We have sheep and chickens as well as a B&B but we will be looking after these jobs ourselves. As a work away traveller, you will not be expected to help with these profit generating activities.
We would like help from someone who has energy and enthusiasm to do physical work and some construction skill would be a benefit.
We will work with you or at least get you started on tasks so you know what to do.Languages

We enjoy learning languages. We are native English speakers, but are currently working to improve our Spanish. Mylene also has some understanding of French and German.Accommodation
We offer a large bedroom with a sofa and a table, and a private attached bathroom as private space for you. You will also be welcome to use our shared spaces in the house.
We generally eat a fairly vegetarian diet, although we may occasionally have chicken, sausage , or fish. We eat lots of fresh vegetables, many from our garden. We are able to accommodate dairy free and gluten free diets if needed. We will always eat lunch and dinners together. In the morning we sometimes make a group breakfast of eggs or porridge and sometimes people help themselves to things like toast or cereal. We always make coffee in the mornings ( espresso).
It’s good to know, in case you have allergies, that we do have a dog and two cats. What else ...
Salt Spring is a beautiful and unique community on a small island between Vancouver and Victoria (Vancouver Island). There are many artisans and musicians. Salt Spring has many events such as concerts, plays, talks, and workshops as well as a lively Saturday Market. There is a bus stop at the end of our driveway and we are also happy to take you to town when we go. In addition, there are beautiful hiking trails. We hike daily with our dog, Zephyr, and would be happy to bring you along.
