Description
Hello and Welcome,
Seeking a French speaker or couple from December to may( dates flexible but a longer term stay for the winter.
We are Erik(36), Amber (45) and Grace (6), we welcome you to come and explore this amazing place we are blessed to call home.
We were so lucky to find this perfect location within the City of Whitehorse, just minutes from downtown and yet has a very rural feel as we are on a dirt road and back onto the river on 1 side and the forest on the other.
We are into hiking, canoeing, "wild crafting" (picking wild plants), fishing, hunting, smoking meat, pottery and living the "Yukon lifestyle".
We camp and canoe regularly. With your help around the farm we will have more time to help you explore this beautiful place .
We appreciate positive, independent people and we are open and excited to hear new ideas.
Most of the work is cooking and cleaning and gardening, occasional small construction projects or reading stories with Grace.Types of help and learning opportunities
Language practiceGardeningFarmstay helpBabysitting and creative playCreating/ Cooking family mealsHelp around the houseGeneral MaintenanceCultural exchange and learning opportunities
Culture: We like to do as many things ourselves as possible from hunting, fishing, growing our food to canning pickles, baking bread, butchering our animals, fixing vehicles & bicycles, hiking, collecting wild plants, carpentry, mushroom picking and dont forget garage saling.... :)

This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Help
Daily help includes: watering, the garden, household cleaning(dishes & sweeping), cooking and various projects such as painting & carpentry. We are grateful if you are independent and observant and have HIGH standards of cleanliness for cleaning the guest house and dishes that we all eat from., we are flexible with the hours you help.. you can help either in the AM or PM and you can usually choose to help all day 1 day and then have the next day off etc. observant.. do the animals need food and water, find the milk in the fridge ;), is the garden dry, you to notice these things .
Having a good work ethic and a positive attitude are greatly appreciated. We will give you many options of tasks based on your skill set... you can certainly tell me you would prefer to do task A instead of take B.
It has been mentioned that we don't give much direction. There is truth in this. I will ask you, " what are you good at?"
I don't micro-manage or look over your shoulder constantly to make sure you are doing it correctly....we hope that you are self reliant and will ask for clarification if needed.Languages

You will make your own breakfast , lunch is usually left overs (from the night before)and dinners tend to be a big production with lots of variety...Cooking & eating is a huge passion of ours so we are always trying new things.
If you enjoy cooking , we would love it if you made a few meals... especially from your country... we take turns cooking. Cooking and dinner clean up are not included as part of work hours unless you are making large quantities for the freezer.

We will try accommodate your meal preferences as we know good food is comforting .
We have some bicycles and a canoe that you can use to ride back and forth to town... you must lock up the bikes and are asked to fix them of you break them.
We ask that you write down ( keep track of how many hours you work each week on a sheet) and we do ask for emergency contact information, and passport #( information which can be shredded upon departure). What else ...
We are located down a dirt road on the banks of the Yukon river. You can canoe to town (10 mins) You must have paddling skills for tjis, bike 10 mins or drive 4 mins, walk 35 minutes. We are conveniently located next to the nicest swimming lake in the area(5 min bike ride further down the dirt road). There is amazing hiking , fishing and biking spots all around and we would be happy to tour you around IF we have time. If you do not have a car and want to go somewhere like Alaska or kluane, you could offer to pay for gas and I will do my best to drive you.
We love to host and cook for our friends who are all very interested in traveling and being outside.
