We are still hosting!!!! Help needed june 10th.
Come and explore this amazing place we are blessed to call home. We strive to maintain normalcy, freedom and community during this pandemic.
We were so lucky to find this perfect location within the City of Whitehorse, just minutes from downtown and yet has a very rural feel as we are on a dirt road and back onto the river on 1 side and the forest on the other.
We are into hiking, canoeing, "wild crafting" (picking wild plants), fishing, hunting, smoking meat, pottery, art and living the "Yukon lifestyle".
We camp and canoe regularly. With your help around the farm we will have more time to help you explore this beautiful place as well.
You must be adult, both physically and mentally. We appreciate independent people and are open to hear new ideas.
Most of the work is cooking and cleaning but you must be able to lift 25lbs/13kg once per day( animal water containers).
Babysitting and creative play
Creating/ Cooking family meals
Help around the house
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Culture: We like to do as many things ourselves as possible from hunting, fishing, growing our food to canning pickles, baking bread, butchering our animals, fixing vehicles & bicycles, hiking, collecting wild plants, carpentry, mushroom picking and dont forget garage saling.... :)
Daily help includes: watering, feeding pigs and the garden, household cleaning(dishes & sweeping), buying groceries, cooking and various projects such as painting & carpentry.
You need to be independent, we are flexible with the hours you help.. you can help either in the AM or PM and you can usually choose to help all day 1 day and then have the next day off etc. You need to be observant.. do the animals need food and water, find the milk in the fridge ;), is the garden dry.. we need you to notice these things .
Having a good work ethic and a positive attitude are greatly appreciated. We will give you many options of tasks based on your skill set... you can certainly tell me you would prefer to do task A instead of take B.This is an urban farm, you MUST have some physical strength( to lift water jugs and garden), you must be okay with the smell of manure and sometimes cleaning animal cages.
It has been mentioned that we don't give much direction. There is truth in this. I will ask you, " what are you good at?"
I don't micro-manage or look over your shoulder constantly to make sure you are doing it correctly.

We try to cook enough so that there are left overs for lunch the next day.. as this make life easier. We like to bake fresh bread, make cheese cakes, pies, muffins.
We will try accommodate your meal preferences as we know good food is !
We have some bicycles and a canoe that you can use to ride back and forth to town... you must lock up the bikes and are asked to fix them of you break them.
We ask that you write down ( keep track of how many hours you work each week on a sheet) and we do ask for emergency contact information, and passport #( information which can be shredded upon departure).
We are located down a dirt road on the banks of the Yukon river. You can canoe to town (3mins) , bike 10 mins or drive 4 mins, walk 35 minutes. We are conveniently located next to the nicest swimming lake in the area(5 min bike ride further down the dirt road). There is amazing hiking , fishing and biking spots all around and we would be happy to tour you around IF we have time. If you do not have a car and want to go somewhere like Alaska or kluane, you could offer to pay for gas and I will do my best to drive you.
We love to host and cook for our friends who are all very interested in traveling and being outside.
We like to listen to folk and world music, there is a pottery wheel for you to try out, there are tons of things to do near by including traditional sweats, games, trivia nights, pubs, mountain biking, wildlife preserve and hotsprings.
