We are now looking for volunteers in March 2020. Please get in touch if you would be interested in working with us.
Hi, We are Andrew and Cécile . Andrew is English and Cécile is French but we have lived and worked in Yorkshire, England for many years. We bought our dream house more than 3 years ago in Limoux, France, and hope to move to live there permanently within the next year. Our project is constructing a language school, so that we can leave our work in the UK behind.
The bit of the project that is already completed is an outdoor swimming pool set into the hillside with magnificent views and a classroom converted from an old garage. Other outside work on walls, terraces, drains and trees is nearing completion, although some clearing work and planting is still needed.
During 2020 we will doing further renovations including building partition walls, insulating, and putting in new windows/doors. We will also be running intensive french language courses where we try to ensure our students engage with the local community. We do not expect everyone to be experienced, and will help people with any tasks that need doing. Of course if you have some experience that is great!!

Help in the house
Whilst on the edge of town it is an easy walk into the restaurants, bars and train station of Limoux. You would also be welcome to use any of the bikes around the place for road or off road routes. Limoux is close to the world heritage site of Carcassonne Cite, and is a good central point for those interested in Cathar history. Most local transport in Aude, whether train or bus costs 1 euro for each journey, however long. Carcassonne airport is half an hour away and has Ryanair flights to several destinations in the UK, Ireland, and Belgium.
Limoux is a lively little town and it has a an extensive cultural offer, with museums, galleries and several festivals during the year.
We watch French TV and listen to French Radio, but watch English football sometimes too!
We would like you to come and help us with general maintenance, building tasks , gardening etc and in exchange we will feed and accommodate you, show you how beautiful this region is and will help you with your French and English learning too!.
We want you to feel at home and be like a member of the family, so it would be great if you were prepared to share cooking and household jobs too.
The house has 4/5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms each with a shower. You will have your own bedroom in the family home and share meals with us. Our House is heated by a woodburning stove, which means the living area is usually hot, but there is no direct heating in the bedrooms.
