    Description

Enjoy a nature retreat. I live in a beautiful area on the Sunshine Coast hinterland in the headwaters of the Mary River, not far from Crystal Waters Ecovillage. The forest is diverse from subtropical rainforest to open eucalypt forest. I am an artist and manage my property for its ecological assets. Weed management is a big part of this.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

I am interested to hear about different cultures and really enjoy an evening chat, especially around a campfire. If you are interested to experience a back to nature sustainable lifestyle this will suit you. I live off grid and sustainably as possible. I am an artist and would welcome learning exchanges or collaborative projects. Bush regeneration and ecological management are also offered as well as organic gardening techniques. I am keen to show longer guests around our local area and share what I know about the stories and culture of the original inhabitants.

  • Help

    Help

I mainly need help with general maintenance and carpentry around my owner-built house. Other tasks could include weeding and mulching gardens, brush cutting and mowing, ongoing property and house maintenance which would be according to your skills. If you have knowledge of Australian bush regeneration this would be an option as well. Artistic enhancements around the house would be most welcome too.

    Accommodation

I provide options such as, a room in the house or a self sufficient cottage for 2 people. I provide would expect 4-5 hours help per day. Because the cottage is self sufficient you could have the choice to cook for yourself and help for less hours. I am vegetarian so meals I provide would be without meat.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Crystal Waters ecovillage is not far from here and has a wide variety of activities and opportunities for social interaction. There is a sour dough wood fired organic bakery serving coffee every saturday morning, a cafe open 4 days per week, a monthly market, pizza night, music nights, yoga, movies on Friday, courses and much more. I often go to these events and could accompany guest otherwise it is not far to cycle or a longish walk.
Maleny is the nearest small town with all the facilities that you would expect. It is also the home to many artists and musicians consequently there is a lot of opportunity to see live music and art. It is very popular with tourists and boasts a many art outlets, cafes and restaurants and a rich culture of community owned co-operative enterprises. I travel here approximately once a week and am happy to show people around. The school bus also takes paying passengers.
There are many interesting nature spots nearby which are good for hiking or just taking some magnificent views such as the glasshouse mountains. Some of the national parks in the area include Glass House mountains national park,
Conondale ranges National park, Kondalilla National park, Mary Cairncross reserve.
The beaches of the Sunshine Coast are 1 hour away and for longer stay helpers I am happy to show you around some of the beauty spots in our area.

I am fairly isolated here so a couple will probably be most comfortable although singles are welcome. I am 13 kms from Conondale general store and 22 kms from Maleny the nearest village. There is no mobile reception but there is wi-fi available. My home is stand alone so facilities are basic, such as an outside composting toilet and outside shower. Electricity is limited as I have a solar system. I prefer helpers stay 1-2 weeks and I can arrange a pick up from Beerwah train station which is 33 kms away.
