Her positive attitude was contagious, and we all loved having her around. We’d absolutely recommend her to any team and really hope to see her back at the sanctuary one day. I was fortunate enough to spend two wholesome weeks at the sanctuary. Despite not being able to speak Spanish, I felt welcomed straight away and was always very grateful for everyone's efforts to explain things to me. I definitely recommend covering some language basics before you go, however, even without this, I would still recommend the
… read more experience. I was made to feel a very valued, appreciated member of the team, especially by Martina who helps to coordinate volunteers.
My days consisted of a variety of tasks ranging from: helping to check on the animals in the morning, cooking, cleaning, laundry, unloading/sorting food deliveries for the animals and of course poo picking! Everyone works very hard and the days are long, but the fulfilment I felt from contributing to such a meaningful mission was priceless.
Set in the beautiful backdrop of the mountains, the location is so stunning and peaceful. I highly recommend taking a walk to the little view point, only a 10 minute walk from the sanctuary. One of the highlights of my day was pausing to take a look at the sunset and cuddling up to Mango the cat who would always join me on my top bunk! The strength, determination and resilience of the animals whom I got the honour to meet, filled me with awe.
I feel extremely inspired and humbled by the safe haven for both animals and humans that Elena founded and the dedication, passion and determination of ALL the volunteers that makes it possible. It was such a privilege to join you, even for a moment. Thank you for all that you do, the world needs more people like you!
Kato stayed with us around three weeks and she has been an amazing part of the team, not even the language barrier has been an obstacle to her efficiency. Spending almost three weeks here was an experience that deeply moved me. I originally planned to stay for two weeks, but once I arrived I knew I want to stay longer. Being surrounded by people who dedicate their lives to giving animals the respect, care, and freedom they deserve was incredibly inspiring. Their kindness and determination create a

I didn’t know much Spanish when I arrived, and while the team was always patient and willing to translate, I’d recommend learning some basics to connect more easily. That said, language was never a barrier to feeling welcome. The days were long and filled with hard work but the shared passion and love for the animals made every moment meaningful. Whether helping with daily tasks, spending time with the animals or cooking for the community I felt grateful to be part of it all.
To the animals you are not here for us, but with us and you deserve every bit of the love and care this sanctuary provides. To the incredible people here, your dedication to animal liberation is truly changing lives and I have so much respect for everything you do.
This place is proof that a kinder world is possible. I recommend it to anyone who wants to make a real difference, and I will be back for sure. Thank you for everything!

… read more as preparing food for the animals, daily medication for the sheep that needed it, etc! I absolutely loved working with los medianos (pigs, sheep & goats)! One of the most important aspects was learning the animals individual personalities:)
The days are definitely long and lots of work (with ~3 hr siesta), but absolutely worth it of course, so definitely join with the expectation of putting in the effort needed to complete tasks! Communication was very clear, and if I ever had a question about anything I knew I would be able to seek help!
The location is in the mountains with the most beautiful views and sunsets! Really going to miss the community and beautiful sanctuary, until next time :) definitely recommend!

On top of that, you'll meet amazing humans, and will instantly be made to feel like you're part a community, where's there's no clear distinction between short-term and long-term

Although you may end up mostly working with the same group of animals, the tasks are varied and you won't get bored.
There is always a lot to do : whether it's taking care of the animals, preparing food, cleaning, working on construction projects [...]. As a result, it's not uncommon to work from sunrise to sunset, though you will obviously have some breaks throughout the day, for breakfast, as well as lunch and siesta.
I wish I could have stayed longer, but already had something else scheduled after that, but will probably come back one day.
And although the main language used there is Spanish (Castillan), you can get around with English too.You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.

This meant that we didnt really speak english and so for me communication was difficult. I stayed here for just over 3 weeks last year. The resident volunteers there are super friendly and welcoming, I didn't speak any Spanish at all but this wasn't a problem for them.
The animals are all so friendly you can tell they are well loved, and there are so many of them!
