Description
Olive harvesting in a traditional Greek village in Peloponnese.
Welcome to my volunteering! My name is George, I am 28 yers old and this is the second year that I host volunteers in my home in a small village called Lyrkeia. After studying in France I returned in Greece to take care of my olive farm that is been in my family for generations. I find intresting to host volunteers because of the cultural exchange and also is more fun for me to do it with people around my age than workers. This is a small eco-friendly project in a peaceful place surrounded by mountains.
We have been producing organic extra virgin olive oil for many generations, I remember myself helping my father and grandfather 15 years ago, and now I try to continue this but in my own way.
The olive harvest happens in November and some of my friends from France will also come for help and live the experience. The tasks are physical but also rewarding because of the scenery, we do everything as a team with me included. You will also see the whole process, if interested, from picking the olives to turning them into olive oil.
We offer a place to stay in my family home with everything that you will need, in a small village of around 200 inhabitants, three meals a day are also included in the offer cooked by mother who is an excellent cook. In this experience you will learn many things about greek culture, as the food or the history.
we could do many activities outside of the work as biking, visiting, darts, football, basketball and many other things.
In return you will help 5 hours a day, 5 days per week with breaks to rest and eat in between.
I propose a minimum stay of 2 weeks starting from 5 November to 20 November or from 20 November to 5 December.
You should join us if you are interesting in a authentic experience in a small Greek village surrounded by a group of young adults who have many things to exchange.
This is not a business project and the olive oil is only for family and friends.Types of help and learning opportunities

They could learn many things about the harvest of olives to the transformation to olive oil, The secrets of a good olive oil and how to achieve that. We will also play together or visit archeological sites and other places nearby. I am half Greek and half French so we will exchange point of views in many cultural questions. I enjoy sharing this experience with young curious people so everybody has something to teach and learn.
Help
The help needed from the volunteers are essentially with the harvest of the olives, I have may fields so we will change environment every now and then, always close to the nature and the mountains. We will do everything together as a team, we will laugh make jokes and share the experience.

My mother will cook traditional greek food for the dinner, during the day we will eat salads or sandwiches in the field and in the morning some fresh orange juice from my trees with some bread and jelly or eggs to start the day strong and to have good energy.
There is also a supermarket in the village if you want something extra for you. What else ...
The village is near Argos a small town 2 hours away from Athens by bus, to join us you will have to come by airplane in Athens and the get a bus to Argos, then I will come and pick you up from there. In your free time there is a school bus that passes by the village early in the morning and bring you to Argos from there there is many local busses to go to other places that are very beautiful, as Nafplio near the Mediterranean Sea or the Mycenaes if you are more interest in archeological sites.
