We spent two weeks at Sonya’s home taking care of her two pets, Bruno the dog and Molly the cat. This was our first Workaway experience, and Sonya welcomed us with warmth and openness. She is a kind and generous person, and we truly appreciated the time spent together, especially sharing delicious meals and good conversations.
The responsibility
… read more was quite demanding, mainly because Bruno is a very sensitive and energetic dog who struggles to be left alone, even for short periods. Molly also has her own routine and likes to be attended to early in the morning. Taking care of both pets required a lot of attention and patience, and although we faced some challenges — including very early wake-up calls, sleepless nights, summer heat, and mosquitoes — we did our best to keep the animals happy and the house in order.
We’re grateful to Sonya for trusting us and for sharing a slice of her life with us. It was a demanding but enriching experience. We would recommend this Workaway to those who truly love animals and are ready to give them lots of time and care.
Thank you again, Sonya!
Marco and Maria drove all the way from the south of Italy to come to my house in Lombardy to look after my dog Bruno and my cat Molly. It was their first Workaway experience and it was probably more challenging than they expected as Bruno gets anxious when he is left alone. But they managed well and were able to deal with the situation as well as

Our pet and house sitting experience in Pragate was superb.
The wine producing area of Terazza de Costa is an endless succession of beautiful vineyards offering breathtaking views of the alps. (Thanks to Sonyas tips on where to go and what to do, which were absolutely priceless)
Conveniently located a short drive to big supermarkets, wineries,
… read more small village and local farm shops (although small shops and farm shops were all closed during the festive season) there was nothing we lacked.
The village where the house is situated is very calm and sleepy, the house is spacious and comfortable, with two wood burners and plenty of wood outside. (If you are staying in winter it is a must to know how to use an axe)
We stayed mostly in the kitchen and slept very well every night in a wonderful bedroom with private bathroom, lovely plants, a sofa and a piano.
It was impossible not to fall in love with Bruno the dog. He has slight separation anxiety, arthritis and some heart condition. He lost a mate not long ago and not being with his mum, we had a feeling he didnt like to be alone for more than two hours tops. He liked to be talked to and informed of all details before we went out, including time of return. It looked like this helped him not feel stressed when we left.
He didnt require long walks, just going around in the garden was quite sufficient. He released himself in a spot(s) in the garden.
He liked being part of our day, was curious of what we did, he would follow us around the house when we chopped wood, clean the leaves, etc. He would sit with us when we ate, like another member of the clan and he was most joyful and full of life at breakfast time (his ears would imitate dumbo) unless of course he would successfully use his witty ways to get more chicken pate, in which case he would actually levitate from euphoric joy. lol
Molly the cat was very chatty and clear about what she wanted, when she wanted, how. Food, let out, let in, rubs, which chair she wanted to chill, etc. It was easy to get along with her and she was a sweet and crazy witty witch. Are all black cats crazy witches???
Note: It might be wise not to let Molly out during the night even if she wants it, as she got some infection we think due to the cold weather. Fortunatelly Sonya got back just in time to spot it and give her treatment. Both animals are very peaceful, lovable and enjoyed interacting with us.
Sonya is just great. Kind, clear in her communication, caring, joyful and interesting. You will quickly understand why the animals love her so much. She has a world of experience and richness of life which we got to know only a precious little bit. We are most grateful for every single day of this experience. Thank you Sonya for this wonderful opportunity to share a bit of your life!
Romina and Gustaf were the best pet and house sitters ever! Lovely people, so kind and communicative with my animals, they kept the house warm , comfortabe and clean beyond expectations!
