Description
We have a beautiful house right on Cape Woolamai where we live as artists. The house was built by a sculptor and lived in until recently by Charlotte, an austrian performer. Now it needs to transform again into an artists residency and there are odd jobs around the house and garden to do. It includes a self contained studio with its own bathroom in the garden on the edge of the nature parks where guests and workaways can live. Just minutes from the beach, it is a sanctuary, with a big library and peaceful atmosphere.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We are a very worldly household, we speak and read several languages. Fluent in English and German (Austrian and Australian by birth) we have a rich multicultural life. Charlotte ran a gallery in NYC in the 1970s, was an actress and performance artist before settling into a photographic and collage practise in recent years in Phillip Island. She was drawn to the wild beaches and chose a house right on the dunes and bushlands where every tree is a kind of sculpture and there are many found objects in our museum like house.
There are so many opportunities for you on the island in walking distance, including surfing, hiking, birding and wildlife viewing of penguins, seals and whales! We have lots of different sized boards, short surfboards, long boards, stand up paddleboards that are like a kayak (great for the mangroves here) and bikes. You can snorkel and explore every aspect of the majestic Pacific Ocean. There is local fresh fish in San Remo and a lovely community of people. Camping trips around the area are wonderful and the island is a great base for adventures in Victoria. I grew up here so i have a wealth of knowledge about places and cultures to share.Help
The house needs TLC so someone who is handy and likes doing repairs would be ideal to see this weatherboard stay in shape.

I (Khadija) am a Professor in the History of Art, specializing in Aboriginal and indigenous cultures. So i have an interest in many languages, especially non-European. I can share my knowledge of language and culture while we work and live together. For me art/language and life are not separate and i love to exchange with others.Accommodation
The studio is a large (40 sq. m) and light space with a double person bathtub a little wood stove and other features that make it very charming. Big window looks out onto the garden where wildlife feed. There is a separate toilet and little kitchen, fridge etc of your own. There is a double bed, stereo and plenty of space for your things (shed for surfboards, SUP etc which you can also borrow from us).
It is very idyllic, you can hear the waves from your bed and walk to see the most beautiful sunset at the Colonnades beach in the evening.
The studio is very private, you have your own entrance, car park, and garden. The washing drys quickly in the sun.
If you like to cook we have a lovely kitchen and would welcome you to prepare meals for yourself or for us and we share food. I'm happy to take care of all the food and we can see how we arrange this (and work hours are adjusted accordingly). There are shops in an easy 5 min drive or 10 min bike, 20 min walking distance from the house. There is an old beach car (subaru forrester) that can also be borrowed to get around the island. What else ...
Phillip Island is a famous destination with a great local community. There is much to discover beyond the usual tourist attractions which we can show you. It's a magical place that we know well from living here the past 30 years
