    Description

Hello! My name is Sara (28), and I am starting an eco-community with some friends, at the foot of the mountains of Serra da Estrela, Portugal's biggest natural park.
Right now we are 4 people and there are a lot of ongoing projects.
We are working mainly with natural materials (wood, stone, cob, lime, etc).
This is a beautiful area, on the highest mountains in Portugal. The land is nested in a little valley, 1,5 hectares with a stream running through all year-round, and a magical woodland. There is a stone ruin that is starting to be rebuilt.
I have a big dog, he is a Serra da Estrela dog, the breed from this area. They are big gentle giants.
We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers, who are keep on gardening and natural building. There are also 7 ducks, a food garden, there are different jobs to do, so I try to find the best job for each volunteer.

NEEDED: farm sitters for the end of July/beggining of August, while we will be away for 2 weeks (separately). Jobs to do are simply to water the garden and take care of the ducks and possibly dog.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

I (Sara) am keen on foraging (especially mushrooms) and am happy to share my knowledge on that. Other interests include herbal healing, music (I play the harp), healthy cooking (vegan). I have lived in Ireland, and I love irish music, culture, paganism, and all things irish! I am happy to share stories, and whatever I know and am passionate about with you!
We also have two germans (Niko and Mathias), and a french (Maiwenn) living permanently on the land.
The area is of big historical interest, the nearest village is a short walk (1km) away, and there are many castles and points of interest in the area.

    What else ...

I like waking up early and working mostly in the morning until lunch, and then a couple more hours after lunch. Work hours vary, but are around 4 or 5 hours a day, depending on the weather, 5 days a week.
There are many walks to do in the area, and I love to take a day a week or so, to go off into the mountains and walk, or just spend the day out. There are also some beautiful castles in the area, including the closest one (Folgosinho) that is sitting on a quartz hill, and is mostly made of quartz crystal. In the warm season there are lots of river beaches to swim in the area.
