    Description

Hi, we are a family of four (Me (Félixe a.k.a the mom), my boyfriend (Mathieu a.k.a dad) and our two sons (Adjan, 4 years and Ulric, 2 years old). We live in downtown Trois-Pistoles in the Bas-St-Lawrence region of the province of Quebec. We have the chance to own a 4 acre land in the middle of the city. We dont live on it yet but we rent a nearby appartment. On the land itself we have a camper van and endless possibility for camping.

My objective is to start a small comunity of self sufficient people on this land to be able to teach and communicate more about our lifestyles and the impact they have on our ecosystems and ultimately ourselves! I am downright passionate about healthy eating, living a more sober lifestyle and making sure I heal nature rather than destroy it.

The proximity of our land with the city makes it all the more easy to have people comme by and learn about our ideal lifestyle while also enjoying the perks of a small but vibrant city that is Trois-Pistoles. Our workaway guests can either use the camper (one double bed) if it is available of be caming on site (we have a tent to lend but you are free to come with yours if you have one). There is running water and compost toilets for the basic needs. You are free to come and take showers or hot baths at our appartment (5 min walk from the camper). The camper also serves as a communal kitchen (gas stove and a little fridge is available).

Me and my boyfriend both work (part time for me and mostly full time for my boyfriend) but I am working hard towards my independency from the working class trap. We also enjoy discussing about environnmental subjects and the solutions that will hopefully flourish from this sad period of humanhood. Playing music aroud a fire pit is also one of our favorite activities.

We also have a sailboat anchored at Rivière-Du-Loup and we try to go on trips throughout the summer to experience this unique way of traveling. We love to talk about this as well and if the timing and weather is right it is possible to take a little ride with us.

You will enjoy staying with us if you like to have animated discussions around a fire pit, play board games, spend time in nature and work hard in the garden while also listening to music and playing with childrens.

There is no minimum hour to work. No work is mandatory and if we have specific tasks that we really need help with we will mention it in advance to validate that you are available. In terms of food provided, there will be the basics available like rice and oatmeal and obviously vegetables from the garden but we do not guarantee meals all the times. If we do organise a real period of work then we will usually have food at the same time. Since me and Mathieu both work, there are also times where you will be on you own and free to do whatever. We base our relashionship on mutual trust and hope that you wil enjoy that way of being with us!

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Me and my boyfriend are bothe quebecers but I would say that our main culture is rather different than the mainstream culture.

With us you will accompany us in our journey towards autonomy. My interests span from permaculture all the way to business managment. I have an engineer degree in industrial engineering and I really like to make connections with different subject to have a broader understanding.<

My boyfriend will definately be more than happy to talk about sailing. We are always curious to meet noew people from different horizon and to be able to share our passion for this beautifull world.

Trois-Pistoles is also a nice little city with a lot of activities in the summer. It is also a one hour drive from both Rivière-Du-Loup and Rimouski, two major cities of the Quebec province as well as many beautifull landscape (and of course the st-lawrence river).

We are really starting from scratch! So everyyear is new to us but here is the list of objectives we have for this year's summer:
    1) Get familiar with workawayers! This is our first year as hosts and just to have someone around is already nice for us. We want to share and hear your travel stories and your vision of life. Hopefully exchange some nice experience too! That in itself is already an accomplishment.
    2) Open the garden. This is the first year we will be gardening. We have dug up what used to be the extension of the road. We now need to extract the rocks, add in mor healthy soil, and cover with compost and mulch. This is mainly shovel and barrel work. So far we have about the quarter done and we hope to have it all layed out by the end of the summer.
    3) any other land managment related tasks like helping to maintain the pathways accessible and watering the trees we planted in spring.
    4) As a bonus but not mandatory, if you would rather help with kids than do physical work, that is also a really plus for us. We love our kids to interact with people from all cultures and this can sometimes give us a bit of free time to advance other type of work. So feel free to contact us if you are more of a children sitting type we can surely fit together!

Most if not all work is outside so make sure you have proper gear (rubber boots for rainy days and sunscreen).

We generally try to go with what the person is capable and wiling to do as well as work around our own availability and the weather.

We mainly speak french although me and my boyfriend both know english.

You can either stay in a camper van if the space is available or in a tent (ours or yours if you have one). We are looking to have more room available once we build the house but for now that is what we have. There is running water and a solar pannel. Cooking and the fridge is via gaz tanks.

The basic food like rice, oatmeal and vegetables from the garden is offered but there will only be organised meals when we work at least a few hours in the day
