    Description

    Hi
we are Linda and Andy a couple who love to travel the world who have finally found their patch of paradise to call home in Weetah.
Located near Deloraine, a picturesque town in Northern Tassie, our 25 acre block is something special. We have our house, the cabin, a creek, a fern gully, bushland and it's home for wallabies, possums, Tassie Devils and the occasional wombat or quoll, plus a host of different birds.
We moved here in Dec 2023 and haven't stopped working on the place since! We both studied Horticulture and Landscape design and are planning to regenerate the land and set up some food production, all while making the place look pretty awesome reusing materials on site.
Outside of travel and house stuff, we both love music, have dabbled in film making and enjoy not taking life too seriously. We have a cat Mr Meowie who rules the house but is also super shy.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

As a couple who have prioritised exploring the world, we love meeting people from all over and sharing experiences. Warning: we have travelled a lot and talking travel is one of our favourite things, so for better or worse you will likely leave with a bunch of recommendations! We have found sharing travel stories with each other is a great way to connect with past workawayers.

On a more practical level we have horticulture and design skills to pass along and its a magical place to go explore.
We are also part of an amazing local community and attend monthly drum circles at friends houses, first weekend of the month breakfast gathering and a bio dynamic gardening group . We sometimes host these events. We include people staying when possible which is a great way to experience some of the amazing scenery and community around here. We're also pretty keen to take people to the pub on a Friday night to get a feel for Deloraine and check out the free live music. Sometimes Andy even plays!

    Help

We work mostly outdoors restoring the gardens and natural areas. Tasks vary depending on the season and weather — from garden maintenance, track clearing, and rock wall building, to helping plan and plant our veggie garden. There's always work involving firewood. Collecting, chopping, stacking. In short there's lots to do and plenty to learn and always a creative project or two on the go.

Some days we’ll work side by side; others you’ll have solo projects to enjoy at your own pace. If the weather’s wild or hot, we appreciate a hand with light housework and you'll be expected to give the cabin a good clean on arrival and departure. You'll also be on dishes duty after dinners :)

    Typical weekdays look like this:

DIY brekkie (we provide eggs, cereal, milk, bread & spreads)

Work starts around 9, tea break about 10:30

Shared lunch (provided) around 1, then another hour or so before the afternoon’s yours

Dinner provided — we make killer pizzas and love a good recipe swap!

Weekends are free for exploring — waterfalls, lakes, caves, and cosy Tassie towns await. Self catering.

You’ll stay in a private self-contained studio cabin approx 50 metres away from our house. It still needs renovating but it's very cosy with wifi, woodfired heater, small kitchenette, hot shower and toilet, and lovely views from the balcony. The space is private, comfortable and quiet — perfect for relaxing after a day outside

It currently has a double bed downstairs and a loft space with a double bed. So you may have it to urself or be sharing. There’s also a campervan option with a diesel heater and queen bed (subject to availability).

We’re a short drive from Deloraine, so your own transport is ideal, but we can offer lifts into town a couple of times a week.

There’s also space for travellers with their own campervans with some beautiful camp sites on the block or room to camp near the cabin.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

There's beautiful walks on the property and the surrounding area has many beautiful walks such as Liffey Falls and Huntsman Lake and there's local caves to visit. Deloraine is a gorgeous little town with soul, cute cafes and some art galleries.
We can pick people up from Deloraine which is accessible via bus.
It is a rural property which means there's no shops in walking distance and it comes with a host of wildlife including occasional snakes, leeches and spiders. You've been warned!
