    Description

Welcome to our home in Katoomba, in the heart of Australia's spectacular World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains.

We love meeting travellers from around Australia and the world, sharing stories, learning about different cultures and helping visitors make the most of their time in Australia. Over the years we have travelled extensively ourselves and have always appreciated the kindness and hospitality of people we met along the way. Now we'd like to return the favour.

Our large home is perfectly located between Katoomba town centre and the iconic Echo Point lookout, with bushwalks, waterfalls, lookouts, cafés and public transport all within easy reach. Sydney is an easy trip by train, while the Blue Mountains offer endless opportunities for hiking, nature and adventure right on our doorstep.

Now that our five children have grown up and left home, we often have several spare bedrooms available. We can usually host up to four travellers for a few days at a time (typically Sunday to Wednesday) and enjoy welcoming guests into our home as friends rather than simply helpers.

In exchange for accommodation and a genuine Australian home experience, we appreciate a small amount of help with household and garden projects that match your interests and abilities. We generally ask for no more than two hours per day, leaving plenty of time for exploring, relaxing or continuing your travels.

You will have your own large bedroom, shared bathroom, unlimited Wi-Fi, access to our fully equipped kitchen, laundry, books, games, BBQ and Netflix account. We generally don't provide meals when helpers outnumber us, but we're always happy to contribute ingredients if you'd like to cook and share an evening meal together.

    Help

Only 2 hours help a day, leaving you plenty of time to explore!

You would be expected to change the linen and make the bed you have slept in before leaving, as well as leaving the bathrooms, living area and kitchen clean after using them. You would generally be expected to buy and prepare your own food and clean up afterwards. You would have the use of a fully equipped kitchen and we will be happy to contribute ingredients if you can cook for us too!

We are private homeowners, not employers, although we do list our house on short-term stay rental platforms and it is usually booked by paying guests at weekends and during school holidays.

Any help provided is voluntary, light and focused on cultural exchange rather than labour. We do not ask Workawayers to undertake tasks that would replace paid workers, and any cleaning or preparation associated with paying guests is completed by us after Workawayers have departed.

This opportunity is suitable for helpers looking for short-term opportunities of a few days at a time only. Tasks can be tailored to the skills and interests of helpers and may include gardening, cleaning and general home maintenance.
