As for the girls - they are a laugh a minute and a pleasure to spend time with. I cared for Joni 2 days a week. We spent lots of time playing with other funny toddlers and going for walks around the island in the sunny spring weather. I have so many warm memories with Joni feeding the ducks and having snacks at the beach. Stella, Joni's older sister is a kind hearted and energetic 5 year old. She is in childcare 5 days a week, but when she was home, she was constantly making me laugh. There’s never a dull moment with Stella and I had so much fun painting and mucking around with her!
This Work-Away felt like the perfect work-life balance for me. I was able to easily obtain another fun part time job at a cafe. There are plenty of hospitality and nannying job opportunities on Bowen if you intende to work on the days you’re not with Joni. Courtney and Devon are generous enough to pay in addition to providing free board and rent, so it’s an awesome opportunity to save up.
Additionally, I still had free time to hike, swim, dance and do yoga on Bowen Island. Vancouver city, Squamish and Whistler were also very accessible, so I was able to travel and do day trips on weekends!

Emily came to live with us on Bowen Island for a little less than three months and we loved having her with us! She is easy going, calm, kind, efficient and interested/interesting. Lena came to stay with us from October 2023-February 2024 and was such a breath of fresh air and efficiency! She has a gift with children and our little girls flourished with her as one of their carers. She was a lot of fun to live with and helped us a ton with general household maintenance and staying on top of it all.

My main task was to take care of Joni. She's such an adventurous, joyful little kid. We went on lots of walks, read lots of book at the library, played with the other kids at the playgroup and she literally became my little best friend. It's been absolutely amazing watching her develop more of her own personality throughout my time with her and to experience her growth.
Same with Stella - it's been so interesting to see how she warmed up to me and let me get a glimpse into her creative, curious and colourful mind. She's so clever, witty and hands down the funniest little girl I know.
I'm so grateful I ended up on Bowen Island to be part of this family, that I'm pretty sure will be part of my life for much longer than this workaway experience. ❤️You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.
