Description
I am an ecologist and my house is 50 meters from the Murray River (the longest river in Australia). I also live about 5 minutes from a nature reserve which I am the manager of that has 12 beautiful wetlands that can be paddled in canoes that are there for visitors to use.
I am clearing away the weeds and replanting the indigenous species on my property and that is my focus for workaways to help with. I also have a vegetable garden and fruit orchard that I like help with too. I love camping and bird-watching and enjoying taking visitors on adventures into the Australian bush.
There are also opportunities to volunteer at the nature reserve clearing weeds, planting and doing bird surveys. Workaways will not be asked to help with profitable projects as I am not involved in any for-profit activities.
I am mainly vegan/vegetarian, mostly eat gluten-free and organic and I love to cook. Your contributions in the kitchen are welcome and I can buy you ingredients I may not have or eat myself if you want them.

Accommodation
Your own room bedroom with a double bed in a 105 year old mud brick farmhouse. Shared bathroom, toilet, laundry and kitchen.
I cook fresh, vegan/vegetarian food most days. This is covered in the food and board arrangement. You can cook too if you like. If we cook together, we clean up the kitchen together. If one of us cooks, the other cleans up the kitchen after the meal.
I have one lovely female housemate who has a little dog. She shares the house but sleeps in her van outside. I also have another female friend who comes fairly regularly to get out of the city.
What else ...
Plenty to do including walk, run, ride a bike along the river
Explore the nature reserve, bird-watching etc
There are three towns nearby
Swan Hill- 35 minutes drive away, has an historic port and pioneer museum and is quite a large service center. Good restaurants including Vietnamese, Indian, Thai, Chinese and Japanese
Barham- 20 minutes drive away, has excellent yoga class, massage and a very good Thai restaurant
Kerang- 25 minutes away, has a large supermarket and some other services
There are beautiful national parks, state forests and internationally significant (Ramsar-listed) wetlands within bike riding distance from the house.
