    Description

Hi and Hola, we are a non-profit animal welfare foundation operating in rural south Guerrero, Mexico.

We rescue animals that have been abused, neglected, abandoned and give them safety, love and comfort in our fenced open-air sanctuary, while looking for permanent homes, if a suitable home is not found we care for them for life.

We currently have approximately 60 dogs, 70 cats and 1 horse in our care. However, these numbers are forever changing.

We run mass spay and neuter clinics to fix the stray animal problem we have across Mexico.

We operate weekly stray dog feeds to neighboring towns, feeding those most in need.

We accept volunteers for 2-6 weeks, please specify how long you would like to volunteer for. All volunteers will also be subject to a 2-week probationary period, to make sure that it is a good fit for you and for the project. If after two weeks, it doesn’t seem to be the case your stay will not be extended.

All volunteers must respect one another and we hope you will make friends for life here.

Working week is 5 hours a day, 5 days a week with two consecutive days off. In return you will live in the shared volunteer house and you will be reimbursed 250 pesos per week for groceries.

** Looking for social media genius **

** Someone to help fundraise and bring new ideas **

    ** Photographers **

It is preferred for our volunteers to speak some level of Spanish, but not essential, please tell us your Spanish speaking level.

Daily tasks include feeding, picking up poop, cleaning the yard, giving out medicine and walking the dogs, after we ask you to spend some one on one time with the animals to create a bond and make them feel loved, we also do basic leash training and commands.

Once these tasks are complete we need to be spending time online, working on social media, creating content etc. Sitting together as a team and brainstorming new ideas for fundraisers or ways of improving our sanctuary.

Other tasks are as and when you are needed such as assisting in taking the animals to the vets and airport, stray dog feeds, building improvements etc. Sometimes the needs of the animals can come at any time of the day and so our schedule is not always fixed so we ask a little flexibility from you, we also offer flexibility as and when you need time off.

Our next calling for volunteers is for help with our social media to build our profile up and get the word out there about the amazing work we do. Our project has been hit hard financially since covid and we really need to reach a new audience and find new supporters and so we need people that know how to do this.

We would also like a photographer, someone who can take amazing photos of our dogs, make people fall in love with them and adopt them.

Does the above sound like you? Please contact us!

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

You will be living at the volunteer house which accommodates 6 people, along with approx. 20-25 of the dogs who live outside in our backyard freely. Each bedroom sleeps two, if you are travelling as a pair you will have your own bedroom, if you are travelling singularly you may need to share a room depending on how many volunteers we have at that time.

Volunteers must be prepared to live alongside the dogs, they can be noisy and demanding at times, you must be an animal lover!

Volunteer house is a Mexican style house, simple and rustic, has all the amenities you need but basic so please don’t expect luxuries. We have a shared bathroom and kitchen and a shaded roof area recently built by our volunteers.

We are in the middle of nowhere but still close to civilization. It is not a busy party town with nightlife but we have a few local restaurants where you can eat Mexican food, there are plenty of social spaces at the house for volunteers to hang out together.

On the combi bus we are 45 minutes from the city and 15 minutes from the airport.

The volunteer house is only a 5-minute walk from the beach and an hour walk from the closest, and more populated, village of Barra de Potosi.
