    Description

We invite you to come to the heart of Oaxaca to share with us the experience of a new way of life. Our place is an ecological guest-house, currently receiving guests all over the world and leaning towards becoming also an educational community right in the center of the amazing Oaxaca city. We look for like-minded individuals who share our desire to to live simply, sustainably, and happily out in our region.
This is a space with a lot of heart, sustained by the work of women and allies from different regions. A place to relax, learn and discover new ways of relating to the environment. We are ideally looking for people who are curious and respectful of our and other cultures and people who can share, align and contribute to our cause and interests.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

You’ll get to live a few blocks from the city center right where a lot of art, music and gastronomic events take place. Also, the community will share about Oaxaca’s culture and its regions, you will get to learn more about the ancestral communities of Oaxaca and explore the eco-techniques we implement for a life towards sustainability.

The vibe here is pretty chill. Much of the tasks we have to do around aren’t physically demanding and there is potential for social interaction with staff and the guests.but we have a nice balance between interacting with people and time for yourself. The staff kitchen is shared with the volunteers and staff when they are here, you can cook your own food or cook together if you feel like. We are open to project ideas and will let you pursue projects/experiments that interest you. Artists are also very welcome and if your artwork fits our vibe, look and feel, we would love murals/sculptures created.

We believe that it is fundamental to take care of natural resources and the small daily tasks that help to sustain life. We have rainwater harvesting and dry toilets, helping to save water and produce fertile soil for the land. We also have an ecofilter for drinking water, and separate all our waste so that it can be recycled or reused.

We ask for a minimum stay of 2 months and preferably someone who speaks English and Spanish fluently.
Normally, your shifts will be in the evening but this may occasionally change depending on circumstances. The main focus of your work will be:· Welcome guests and tour them around the place.
    · Send them check in and out messages.
    · Check and refill the ecofilter at the kitchen.
    · Sending welcome cards through emails.
    · General inventory.
    · Keep the location chill and pleasant. (lights, coffee, music)

We do ask for the standard 25 hours/week of help and we will do our best to give you the opportunity to be part on projects that fall into your talents and interests. We are pretty chill and flexible.
You will be staying at the staff apartment annexed that is inside the guest-house(it hasn’t been refurnished with bioconstruction). We are a few blocks in between the city center and Jalatlaco. We offer you a private room with shared bathroom (dry toilet). The common areas are shared with other members of the staff (kitchen and living room).

If you are interested in going further and learning about going off-grid, bioconstruction, permaculture, growing food, harvesting water, producing energy, desert plants or agroecology, this is a great place to be because we have close conection with regenerative projects where you can learn and get to know people leading this changes in Oaxca City. We have lots of things we can do!

Skilled help is great, but not required.

    What else ...

The biggest things that we want in our volunteers are for them to be good community members. It’s important for both parts to feel that we have an equal exchange, good communication and proactiveness. We want people who are joyful and can help independently without having to be managed daily.
