We now have all our helpers for the rest of the summer but we are looking for helpers for October as we will need help on some improvement projects :)
Hi, we are brother and sister Jacob (28) and Bethany (30), together with our partners, we run an equestrian stunt team and dog boarding kennels in the Borders of Scotland. We set up our business in 2008 after 9 years living in France and doing our horse entertainment/circus/re-enactment shows. While we were living in France our parents hosted workaways and other volunteers, we have had many interesting people stay with us.
There are 7 full time members in our team who live and work on our farm. It is a group of young people motivated to work hard to create a successful business. Jacob and his partner Sophie have two young children who also live on the farm. Jacob and Bethany were taught at home. We are vegetarian and don't smoke, people are most welcome when they are similar to us. Anyone who comes to stay will find a friendly relaxed atmosphere.
We have horses, dogs, a sheep, a goat, chickens, cats and two ferrets. Part of your job as a helper would be to help look after all our animals.
We do our horse shows all over the UK and Ireland mainly in the summer months, the shows include lots of different skills including jousting, combat, fire breathing, circus tricks, dressage, stunt riding, dog training, live music and much more! Our shows are set to music and include costumes and props made by us.
I would please like to ask people only to commit if you will definitely turn up, I am putting this note due to having a couple of people not turn up this summer. The really sad thing is that I have had to turn other people away because the space to all intent & purpose was taken. Please tell us in advance if your plans have changed, as I understand this can happen.
We love to meet new people and hear about their lives and the places they have travelled, we all work hard and have a good laugh while we are at it.
Please come along and get involved!
There are many things you can take away from an experience with us. From working with a large enthusiastic group of people; to watching performances and training of stunts, horses, dogs and goat. All of our trainers and performers love sharing their knowledge with people and answering any questions you may have about performance, animal care & running your own business.
This host offers accommodation and payment.
The tasks are very varied, changing by season etc. However some of the things you can expect to help with are:
Looking after dogs in the kennels; walking them and cleaning up after them.
-General care of the gardens and 75 acres of grassland, fencing and track making.
-Caring for the horses and helping during training.
-Helping to make or maintain equipment, props, costumes.

Accommodation is either in a caravan, or our “barn rooms” a couple of basic rooms above our stables.
