    Description

We are Jenn and Kali, a young dynamic couple building and renovating an off-grid home in a piece of tropical rainforest paradise on the Atherton Tablelands in far North Queensland, Australia. We are both world travellers who have settled (for now) while we make the dream of owning ones own home a reality. We are progressive, conscious, artistic individuals with a keen interest in sustainable and community living principles. Jenn is a midwife and Kali is a carpenter/builder and musician. We have no children yet and love being surrounded by good people to share life and stories with!

There are numerous easy and more difficult walks all around the property, mostly to visit the creeks, tributaries and waterfalls that we have here. Water is our most abundant resource! There is also an incredible diversity of flora and fauna to see, breathe and experience. Beyond the property is the magnificent Atherton Tablelands to explore with many attractions including geological and other natural wonders to behold. We like to take our guests on day trips around the Tablelands to see our special places on days off together. Staying with us you will also learn about sustainable and environmentally conscious ways of living in the world. While we are not yet fully independent of fossil fuel resources, we aim to become more and more independent as our years here progress. We love music, art and food and enjoy sharing our life experiences and travels of the world with like-minded people.

Our home is set within a 260 acre piece of privately owned wet tropics world heritage rainforest. Bordering the Wooroonoonan national park, we live on a shared property with five separate homes one of which is ours known as "The Roundhouse".

Our mission is to restore this tropical gem to its former glory as an inspiring and quirky off-grid family home, but we need help! Jobs and projects include a variety of tasks that are mostly determined by the weather and the availability of help. All area's of building including carpentry, plumbing, electrics, restoration, eco-construction, landscaping and gardening are possibilities. Other tasks to do with living off-grid such as mechanics, bushwalking, re-purposing and land maintenance, etc. may also be required. We are usually able to tailor the tasks to your interests and skill set. Experience in these area's will be highly appreciated but not necessary. All we ask is that 100% effort is given to all tasks in exchange for your experience of living and playing in this tropical paradise. We are generous people who believe in the mutual exchange that comes with living in groups.

    Accommodation

Accommodation is within our home, we have two guest areas with double beds or you can choose to camp within the grounds if you prefer. We have endless hot water, satellite wifi and gas cooking with comfortable areas for hanging out and sleeping during your stay. As the home is fully off-grid with solar power we live in a power-conscious way and we ask our guests to also be conscious of their power consumption such as turning off lights and only charging electronic devices during sun-lit hours. We compost all organic materials and consciously use and re-use all of the earths resources.

We provide all vegetarian food for guests during their stay. Breakfast is buffet style for everyone to help themselves to basics such a tea/coffee, cereal, fruits, etc. Lunch is served as the largest meal of the day and may be prepared by a different member of the group each day. Dinner is usually small and shared or can be individual depending on the groups needs/preferences. Guests are part of our family here and contributions to the cooking and clean up are a part of daily life. Any food for other/special diets must be provided by guests themselves.

Transport is via bus to our local town. These buses operate between Cairns and the Tablelands every day. We pick our guests up from the bus stop and/or can sometimes coordinate to pick up/drop them to their next destination.
