A remote nature refuge in one of the wildest valleys of Gran Canaria, where visitors help young trees survive the summer in exchange for the opportunity to live immersed in nature.
Our refuge is located in a remote valley near Agaete, on the northwest coast of Gran Canaria, within one of the wildest and most beautiful landscapes on the island.
Unlike most areas of Gran Canaria, this valley still benefits from natural runoff water for much of the year, creating a unique environment with small waterfalls, streams, steep cliffs and native vegetation. It is a peaceful, isolated and largely untouched place where nature remains the main character.
We offer the opportunity to stay in a simple off-grid refuge and experience this extraordinary environment while helping care for hundreds of young trees that need support to survive the dry summer season.
The refuge is basic and rustic. There is no electricity, no running water and no permanent host living on site. Life here is simple and requires a certain degree of autonomy and comfort with basic conditions.
The collaboration consists of approximately three hours of help per day, mainly watering young trees and carrying out small maintenance tasks related to the reforestation effort.
The rest of the time is yours to enjoy the landscape, hike, explore the area, visit the nearby coast or simply disconnect from the pace of modern life.
This experience is best suited to independent people who enjoy nature, simplicity and solitude, and who would like to contribute to the care of a young forest while living for a few days or weeks in a truly special place.

Ofrecemos la oportunidad de vivir en un lugar excepcional y, a cambio, ayudar unas horas al día a cuidar los árboles.
Nuestro refugio se encuentra en un barranco remoto cerca de Agaete, en la costa noroeste de Gran Canaria, dentro de uno de los paisajes más salvajes y espectaculares de la isla.
A diferencia de gran parte de Gran Canaria, este barranco conserva agua de escorrentía durante buena parte del año, creando un entorno singular con pequeñas cascadas, cauces naturales, grandes riscos y vegetación autóctona. Es un lugar tranquilo, aislado y muy poco intervenido donde la naturaleza sigue siendo la protagonista.
Ofrecemos la posibilidad de alojarse en un refugio sencillo y aislado y disfrutar de este entorno extraordinario mientras se colabora en el cuidado de cientos de árboles jóvenes que necesitan apoyo para superar la estación seca.
El refugio es básico y agreste. No dispone de electricidad, agua corriente ni personas viviendo permanentemente en el lugar. La vida aquí es sencilla y requiere cierto grado de autonomía y comodidad con condiciones básicas.
La colaboración consiste en aproximadamente tres horas de ayuda al día, principalmente regando árboles jóvenes y realizando pequeñas tareas de mantenimiento relacionadas con la reforestación.
El resto del tiempo queda libre para disfrutar del paisaje, caminar, explorar el entorno, visitar la costa cercana o simplemente desconectar del ritmo de la vida moderna.
Esta experiencia está especialmente dirigida a personas independientes que disfrutan de la naturaleza, la sencillez y la tranquilidad, y que quieran contribuir al cuidado de un joven bosque mientras viven durante unos días o semanas en un lugar verdaderamente especial.

Visitors can learn about the challenges of reforestation in a dry climate and take part directly in caring for young trees during a critical stage of their growth.
The stay offers an unusual experience of simple and autonomous living in a remote refuge, providing an opportunity to develop self-reliance, adaptability and a closer relationship with nature.
It is also a chance to discover the natural environment of Agaete and the Tamadaba Natural Park, one of the wildest and best-preserved areas of Gran Canaria, and to better understand the relationship between landscape, water and ecological regeneration.
Depending on who is staying at the refuge at any given time, there may also be opportunities to exchange languages, travel experiences and different perspectives on nature-oriented lifestyles.

Las personas que nos visitan pueden aprender sobre los retos de la reforestación en un clima seco y participar directamente en el cuidado de árboles jóvenes durante una etapa crítica de su crecimiento.
La estancia ofrece una experiencia poco habitual de vida sencilla y autónoma en un refugio aislado, permitiendo desarrollar habilidades de organización personal, adaptación a entornos básicos y una relación más cercana con la naturaleza.
También es una oportunidad para conocer el entorno natural de Agaete y del Parque Natural de Tamadaba, una de las zonas más salvajes y mejor conservadas de Gran Canaria, y comprender mejor la relación entre el territorio, el agua y la regeneración ecológica.

### Help
The main purpose of the help is to support hundreds of young trees that have recently been planted and need care to survive the dry summer season.
Most tasks are simple and do not require previous experience. We will explain everything when you arrive.
Typical tasks include:
* Manual watering of young trees
* Planting new tree seedlings
* Marking and identifying planted trees
* Occasional cleaning of irrigation channels
* Occasional collection of stones for future dry-stone wall repairs
The collaboration is approximately 3 hours per day during your stay.
There are no fixed schedules. We simply ask helpers to complete the agreed tasks and help the young trees through the summer.
This is not a highly demanding project, but it does involve walking on uneven terrain, carrying water and spending time outdoors.
A high degree of autonomy is required. There are no permanent hosts living on site and no daily supervision. After an initial introduction, helpers are expected to organize themselves and carry out the agreed tasks independently.
We are looking for people who feel comfortable in simple and isolated environments, enjoy nature and genuinely want to contribute to the survival of the young trees.

El objetivo principal de la colaboración es ayudar a cientos de árboles jóvenes recientemente plantados que necesitan cuidados para superar la estación seca.
La mayoría de las tareas son sencillas y no requieren experiencia previa. Explicaremos todo al llegar.
Las tareas habituales incluyen:
* Riego manual de árboles jóvenes
* Plantación de nuevos plantones
* Marcado e identificación de árboles plantados
* Limpieza ocasional de acequias
* Recolección ocasional de piedras para futuras reparaciones de muros de piedra seca
La colaboración es de aproximadamente 3 horas al día durante la estancia.
No existen horarios fijos. Simplemente pedimos que se realicen las tareas acordadas y se ayude a los árboles jóvenes a superar el verano.
No se trata de un proyecto especialmente exigente, aunque sí implica caminar por terreno irregular, transportar agua y pasar tiempo al aire libre.
Se requiere un alto grado de autonomía. No hay personas viviendo permanentemente en el refugio ni supervisión diaria de las actividades. Tras una explicación inicial, se espera que cada persona pueda organizarse y realizar las tareas acordadas de manera independiente.

### Accommodation & Access
Helpers stay in a simple off-grid refuge located in a remote valley surrounded by nature.
The refuge can accommodate up to six people and includes beds, a basic gas stove and essential cooking utensils.
Please note that this is a rustic accommodation. There is:
* No electricity
* No running water
* No internet
* A dry toilet
* Limited mobile phone coverage
Helpers must bring their own food and drinking water for the duration of their stay.
There are two nearby spring-fed streams with small waterfalls where it is possible to wash using biodegradable soaps.
The refuge is not permanently inhabited. Helpers will have a high degree of independence and are expected to feel comfortable living autonomously in a simple natural environment.
This experience is closer to staying in a mountain refuge than to staying in a house, hostel or shared living project.
### Location & Access
The refuge is located near Agaete, on the northwest coast of Gran Canaria.
It can be reached by public bus, and Agaete offers supermarkets, shops and other services before arriving at the refuge.
Helpers can also arrive by car, and there is space nearby for parking.
Campervans and self-contained vehicles may also be considered, depending on availability and circumstances.

Los colaboradores se alojan en un refugio sencillo y aislado situado en un barranco rodeado de naturaleza.
El refugio tiene capacidad para hasta seis personas y dispone de camas, un fogón de gas y utensilios básicos de cocina.
Es importante tener en cuenta que se trata de un alojamiento rústico. No dispone de:
* Electricidad
* Agua corriente
* Internet
Además, cuenta con:
* Baño seco
* Cobertura telefónica limitada
Cada persona debe traer su propia comida y agua potable para toda la estancia.
En las proximidades existen dos pequeñas vaguadas con cascadas donde es posible asearse utilizando jabones biodegradables.
El refugio no está habitado de forma permanente. Las personas que se alojen allí deben sentirse cómodas con un alto grado de autonomía y una forma de vida sencilla en contacto con la naturaleza.
La experiencia se parece más a la estancia en un refugio de montaña que a una casa, un albergue o un proyecto de convivencia.
### Ubicación y acceso
El refugio se encuentra cerca de Agaete, en la costa noroeste de Gran Canaria.
Se puede llegar en transporte público mediante la línea de autobús que conecta Agaete con La Aldea.
En Agaete se encuentran supermercados, comercios y todos los servicios necesarios antes de acceder al refugio.
También es posible llegar en coche y existe espacio para aparcar en las proximidades.
Las personas que viajen en camper o vehículos autónomos pueden consultarnos previamente, ya que en algunos casos también podemos acoger este tipo de estancias.

The area is ideal for hiking, nature observation, reading, writing, resting and disconnecting from urban life.
