  • Description

We are Karen and Lawrence with our grown-up son Bennet. We live in a farmhouse on 34 hectares of traditional organic North Devon farmland. We have sheep, lambs, Devon cattle, two pigs, some poultry, sheepdogs and cats. There are traditional and modern barns and we have a small kitchen garden.

We aim to be sustainable and to maintain the traditional landscape features like hedges, pastures. and stone built barns

We are non-smokers and do not allow smoking in the house.
    We have wireless internet.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We have had volunteers from all over the world and we greatly enjoy the different ideas and points of view they bring.
Here, our volunteers have the opportunity of experiencing of aspects of rural family life in the lovely North Devon "Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty". They have the opportunity of learning about dairy sheep, sheepdogs, cheese making, beef cattle, pigs, poultry and rural crafts like hedge laying, blade shearing and knitting.

  • Help

We currently have lots of work to do to our hedges; laying them and clearing up the unwanted branches. Is anyone interested in this sort of work and can use a billhook and saw?
We welcome volunteers who are interested in organic practices and a sustainable rural lifestyle; and who would like to join in as part of the family. Help would be gratefully received with any of the many tasks associated with rural existence such as animal care, controlling weeds like thistles, maintaining hedges and traditional buildings, and tidying up the house, barns and garden. Our cooking style is eclectic and we welcome ideas and help with the meals. Our volunteers usually find something to do that they like or find educational.
