Frankly, it's quite difficult to write a review on a place you call home for a year (and a few months added) but here I go... this place and Newcastle are one of those places that are really tucked out of the way like a random detour that ends up being better than the road-trip. My favorite part of finding these little tucked away gems is the
… read more personality and stories that come from them. And wow, does this place have personality. The staff are some of the most hilarious bastards I've met and the constant stream of bullying (Irish affection) will be missed. Get Ray to dance. The location is gorgeous hidden in the Mourne Mountains, the summers are beautiful and there is no end to the amount of exploring you can do around the country, or pints you can drink. Buy Vitamin D for the winter. The people are some of the kindest I've met traveling and are always up for a chat. Those you live and work with become closer than family. The work is rewarding and you have the opportunity to lead sessions the way you want directly impacting kids who sometimes have never been on a climbing wall, canoe, or hike before. How the year shapes you is up to the effort you put in and I can without a doubt say that I grew so much living and volunteering here. Love you all dearly.

I came here as a summer camp volunteer in June expecting to stay two months but as I write this I have already been here 1 month extra and am staying another 2 weeks. I usually limit my workaway stays to 5 weeks but there is simply far too much living and learning to be done here to spend only 5 weeks. The work itself is great, as a summer camp
… read more leader I had 10 kids each week from Monday to Friday from local areas and alongside roughly 10 other summer volunteers we would provide them with exciting and outdoorsy activities from 8:30am to 4:00pm. The kids were always were extremely sweet and full of energy. The activities were genuinely really great, this is my third summer camp now through workaway and I’d say the activities here have been the best I’ve done. What I really appreciate with this summer camp is you have a real chance to develop meaningful relationships with the kids because of the smaller group sizes and the kids will remember you as you walk around the town they are always very excited to see you. As great as the activities and centre itself are, the thing that makes this experience special is the people. I had the pleasure with living with 35 amazing international volunteers in Glenada where I shared a room with only one person and had an ensuite bathroom between us. There is a real sense of community and family when you live and work with the same big group of people and as much as it has its challenges, it’s hard to imagine life without them in it. The full time staff who work here do an amazing job at making the volunteers feel welcome and valued because this centre is founded around volunteering and it relies on the joint efforts of staff and volunteers working together to provide memorable experiences for so many people. A special mention to Victoria, Michael, Mark and Matthew in the office who put in so much work to make this place what it is. There is always something going on around the area to keep you busy and the staff make sure to provide you with plenty of opportunities to get involved with local communities to really make you feel like you have a home away from home. From weekly American football afternoons to crochet nights, endless climbing opportunities as well of plenty of day outings to explore the beautiful surroundings, it’s hard sometimes to get time to yourself because there is always something better to do.
I also did a lot of work alongside Michael developing our own large scale project for the centre for over a month which just goes to show how much they value their volunteers. Everything around this place has a bit of magic in it but you do have to go grab it yourself. If you want an amazing experience you will have to go and get it rather than waiting for it to come to you and it’s an amazing exercise in making places the way you want them to be. The possibilities for what you want your time here to look like are near endless. Whether you spend just summer or a year, this place will help you grow so much and provide you with so many opportunities to become a better version of yourself. I always think the best time to evaluate your experience at a place comes when you have to say goodbye. As my time comes to an end here it’s gonna be really hard to say goodbye which just goes to show how much I’ve enjoyed my time here. Thankfully I’m sure it wont be a goodbye but rather just see you soon and I cant wait to see how far this place will have come by the time I’m there next 🐨❤️You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.

Laia was an excellent Volunteer. She was a great Outdoor Instructor and interacted very well with the young people. She was a great team player and mixed well with her co-workers. She was able to carry out any task independently and used her initiative when needed. Thank you Laia for all your hard work and dedication.

I spend two-month volunteering at this place. It was an amazing experience, I learned a lot of fun and cool stuff. They trained me to be an excellent outdoor activity instructor. I worked alongside a wonderful team of foreign volunteers whom I shared a lot of experiences and adventures. The hosts were very nice and helped me with anything that I

Hi, I'm currently completing a year of volunteering at GreeenHill, and just in those 4 months, it's been a really exiting and fun experience where I'm not just improving my English, I'm learning a lot of things as a youth worker. Then the experience of shareing a home with the other volunteers and learning new things about other countries, it's
