Description
Hi ! My name is Karan and I live with my teenage son and daughter in beautiful Tasmania on the way to Cradle Mountain. We also share our house with our very friendly dogs. We have a few acres with the usual farming animals, chickens, ducks, geese, sheep and a couple of calves that are mostly pets as well as lots of local wildlife. We always have lots of different projects on the go, tending to vegie gardens and animal housing, fencing or creating some new feature or building sheds. We are also training horses for endurance riding when we get the time to. We are hoping to get more into permaculture and would love to hear about your ideas and experiences if you have any. Interior decorating using recycled materials where we can is another project that always seems to be on the go.
We are located about a 40min drive from beautiful Cradle mountain where there are many walks to be done. Lake Barrington is a 5 min drive where you can go kayaking and swimming or choose to bush walk to the falls. We are also 30- 40 mins from Ulverstone and Devonport.
Our accommodation is a studio with cooking facilities, double bed and cosy fire for winter time. Bathroom is in main house at this time but if you are handy we would love your help putting a bathroom in the studio!Types of help and learning opportunities

We would love to share our off grid way of life with you. We are on the way to being self sufficient, reliant on solar power and rain water, seasonal fruit trees and vegie garden, eggs when the chickens are laying. We would love to take you kayaking on nearby lake Barrington, bush walking at Cradle Mountain National Park and Leven Canyon, spotlighting at night to see the wildlife and maybe a visit to the little penguins during season. We would love to learn from your travel experiences and swap ideas from your life skills too.
Help
Ideally we would love to host singles or couples that enjoy gardening, general maintenance and have a love of animals. Help can be anything from gardening to help building animal enclosures, fencing, feeding and caring for horses, possible riding if you have previous experience. Cooking and preserving are something that we would love help with too. You must also be able to work independently as on occasions I am not around for the whole day.

Accommodation
We have a studio with kitchen, cosy fire in the winter and double bed to suit single or couple. Can supply a single pull out bed too if needed. We eat our own grown chemical free meat and are happy to share our meals with you. If you have special dietary needs you are welcome to supply and cook your food in the studio.
What else ...
There are a couple of local walking trails close by, a beautiful lake for kayaking and swimming and up the road cradle mountain National Park. We go to town on a regular basis so can arrange pick up and drop off to our property from Devonport and also assist with transport to local places of interest.
* Please note that being off grid and self sufficient means we are dependant on rain and sunshine !! during the summer months we have to be careful with water usage, that can mean 3 minute showers ! And during the cloudy winter days we may have limited power! *A little more information

It was my first Workaway experience and Karan made it a great time.
We were building a shed, did some gardening and going on rides and talking about horses for hours with Sharky really made my horse girl heart happy.
