    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Tucked into Parapara Valley in Golden Bay, 15 minutes from Takaka town, we're starting something new: an organic, off-grid land project with a river on the doorstep and fresh water on site. From 1 December we'll be bringing the land to life through spring, summer and autumn: planting gardens, mending an old building, shaping tracks and learning the rhythms of the place as we go. Over time, we hope it becomes a simple, peaceful spot where people can come slow down and recharge.

We can to show you around our area, we have beach’s, rivers, forests and many stunning nature spots, we are keen to learn new languages and share travel stories

We will have food provided, will provide fresh produce from the region to cook and cooking facilities, we will at times share and cook meals together

This is a chance to be part of the very beginning, not just the tidying up of something already finished. Everything we do here is organic, from the food on the table to the way we care for the soil, and we love sharing what we know.

If you've got some experience, brilliant. If you're keen to learn, that's just as good.

What you'll be getting stuck into:

    - Growing organic veggies, making compost and saving seed
    - Clearing, fencing, tracks and firewood
    - Repairs and a bit of carpentry
    - Whatever outdoor projects the season brings

    Accommodation

    Life here:

    - Your own simple wooden cabin tucked into the bush, with power on site
    - An outdoor shower and bath, and a river just steps away for a cooling swim after work
    - Three organic meals a day, shared around the table, with more and more coming straight from the garden (We will provide fresh food from the region or garden, we will provide the kai/ingredients, we will occasionally cook and share meals together)
    - About 4 hours of help a day, 5 days a week, leaving 2 full days free
    - Abel Tasman, Kahurangi and the Heaphy, Pupu Springs, beaches and Takaka markets are all within reach

The honest bit: It's a rustic, back-to-basics set-up with an outdoor compost toilet. There's phone reception for internet, but we're not a wifi sort of place. We only have 1 to 2 helpers at a time, so it's a small, relaxed household. You'll need your own vehicle, a visa that allows volunteering, and your own travel and medical insurance. Minimum stay is 1 weeks, and 2 to 4 weeks suits us best.

You'll fit in if you like getting your hands dirty, don't mind a bit of bush living, care about good food and looking after the land, and enjoy a yarn over dinner. Beginners very welcome.
