Description
Our farm is set on 97 acres of rolling terrain, nestled between two small waterways, in Lanark County, about an hour from Ottawa and Kingston, Ontario, Canada. The land is a mixture of field, forest and wetlands, on which we keep chickens (for both meat and eggs), quails, horses, and pigs, grow lots of vegetables, bail our own hay, and produce maple syrup and preserves. While we do sell some produce, we use that income to reinvest in the farm, and donate significant amounts of food to local food banks and seedlings to community gardens.
About us:
Mr. Farmer has been working in the trades for the last 20 years and thought that farming would be less work. BIG MISTAKE. However, a love of the outdoors and working with the land makes it all worthwhile. Mrs. Farmer works in healthcare and tries to make sure Mr. Farmer doesn’t ruin everything.
The rest of the family also includes three farmers-in-training, two dogs, and three cats.
We eat both plant and animal food sources and would prefer a someone who is open to an omnivore diet. We are happy to share the cooking and learn about some of your favourite meals.
Activities and leisure time: If more chores aren’t how you like to fill your free time there are other things to do around the farm. In the summer, there’s swimming (pool or river), canoeing, kayaking, and fishing. In the winter, you can go snowshoeing, cross country skiing, tobogganing and skating. Hiking the trails around the property is a great activity any time of year.Types of help and learning opportunities
