    Description

We are now looking for a long-term volunteer to live with us for at least 6 months:

ahora estamos buscando un voluntario a largo plazo para vivir con nosotros durante al menos 6 meses:
    ----

    for all other volunteers: (:
Please read our profile fully before applying. We will not accept requests from people who haven't read our profile !!!

Please note: we will not accept short-term volunteers at this time: 3 weeks are our MINIMUM. So please only apply if you are willing to commit for that time (or longer) :)

Understanding and speaking spanish is required! You dont have to be fully fluent, but you need to be able to communciate properly and understand everything. Please dont apply if you are a spanish beginner!

    So now, hey! :) ,

Our non-profit organization is dedicated to the care and protection of the many canines and felines that are victims of neglect, abuse and abandonment.

When we welcome unwanted animals through our gates our main aim is to restore their health, both mental and physical, so that they can be rehomed with owners capable of giving them the love and attention they deserve.

In order to look after our furry friends, we make sure they have been medicated, have a balanced diet of natural, homemade food, which is prepared by the workers at the foundation and to sterilise them, because we know how sterilizations will affect the well-being of this and the coming generations of the strays.

we also use a range of plant-based medicines for ailments where veterinary prescribed drugs are not necessary.
We try to produce our own everyday items such as soaps and shampoos using natural materials and to be as self-sufficient and environmentally friendly as possible. Also we go to the local markets once a week to safe the food, which was meant to be thrown away (but is still perfectly edible for the animals and us).

We are a team of 5 humans (+ usually 1- 2 volunteers) and we are all dedicated animals lovers, who are willing to share our knowledge with everyone, who’s interested. :)

Campoalegre is a typical village in Colombia, where you can learn about the country life of the province of Huila, capital of rice, where you can visit rivers, mountains, observe flora and fauna, eat typical dishes, visit other nearby villages and make friends with the friendly people who live nearby.

    Schedules:

    05:00 - 07:30: Feed cats & dogs + cleaning common areas
    07.30 - 08:30: Breakfast
    08:30 - 12:00: Nursing tasks(treatment of wounds, etc)+ cleaning cats & dogs dormitories
    12:00 - 14:00: Lunchbreak
    14:00 - 15:00: Feed cats & dogs
15:30 - 16:00: Prepare cats & dogs for sleeping time
After 16:00: free time (maybe feed kittens/puppies)

Sometimes work is necessary after 4pm, as with so many animals the unexpected can always occur. There may be puppies, kittens or animals in bad condition to take care of, as well as the possibility of unwanted cats or dogs being abandoned at our door at any hour.
Although the days can be long, the love you receive back from our four-legged friends will make it all worth it.

we are looking for all kind of help, but there are some skills we urgently need:
    - people with construction experience
    - veterinarians or trainee veterinarians
    - someone to manage our SOCIAL MEDIA account (make posts or stories)

    some daily tasks will be:
    * Sweep the yard
    * Remove the leaves + dog poop
    * Water the garden of the sanctuary
    * Clean the cats and dogs’ dormitories
    * Take the dogs for a walk
    * Play with or pet the animals
    * Help with taking the animals to the veterinary
    * Help to feed cats and dogs (this happens 2 or 3 times per day)
    * Help with grocery shopping
    * One of the principal tasks will be to manage our Instagram account (make posts or stories)

Right now we are the home to more than 90 animals (80% are dogs). Since unfortunalty old or weak animals sometimes die or new ones get abandoned or dropped over our fence the number of animals always changes, so there is lots to be done. We want people, who are thinking of joining us to know, that working with animals can be very physically and mentally challenging. Please keep in mind that we are no petting zoo! (zoos suck anyways!!)

But we are a strong team, which will never leave you alone and you will learn a lot about animal care.

    New Englisch-teaching project:
Currently we are also working together with an indigenous community where our volunteers are welcomed and to teach the children of the community basic English skills
(this is optional and als if you want to)

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

    WHAT WE OFFER:

    - Accommodation

- VEGAN food (3 times a day)

-DORMITORIES: fairly basic but comfortable rooms in a traditional maloca house.
The rooms are simple, with a bed to rest your head (in the rooftop room just mattresses), and enough room/a safe for all of your belongings.
The dorms are shared with some of the dogs (around 2-4 dogs) and up to 3 volunteers + 1 single rooftop-room

Apart from some of the meat used to feed the animals, we are a strictly meat free sanctuary. We do not expect everybody, who joins our team to be vegan, but for the time you will spent at the sanctuary we kindly ask to not consume any products from animals whatsoever - In respect for the animals and our founders.
Nutritious Vegan food and natural juices are provided at the shelter for all volunteers.
Also there will always be a warm hot chocolate in the evening, made from scratch with locally grown cacao, waiting for you at the end of the day.

 :)

    +++
Currently we do ask that volunteers donate 15,000 pesos a day, which is just under 3 Euros/Pounds, or just over 3 USD depending on what currency you are using. It pains us greatly to ask this, however, the pandemic has hit us particularly hard and with the ever-growing costs of animal food/medication, we need all of the help we can get.

Our foundation has become the home of many beings also of a lot of happy former volunteers who joined our international team or return to the foundation!

To show us that you have read everything you can start your message with "hey fellow animal lovers" ;)
we are all volunteers and have a lot of work to do we will not accept people who haven't read our profile fully! Copy and paste messages will not be accepted!

We look forward to hearing from you! :)

your dog needs to be socialized and friendly towards the animals which live at the foundation. But it is possible and former volunteers brought their dogs along with them as well, which worked well!
