We are a Buddhist Meditation Centre in Sheffield located in a popular area opposite beautiful Endcliffe Park and within easy walking distance of the city centre.
Our mission is to help people learn to find peace and happiness individually and in the world by developing a peaceful mind.
The Centre is run entirely through the kindness of volunteers like you. We are looking for people to help in the cafe with things such as serving customers, cleaning and preparing food. We also have a Bed & Breakfast with 3 rooms that we need help with. Other jobs around the Centre like cooking, cleaning, decorating, many household jobs e.t.c. Lots of opportunities :)
Conversational English language is helpful as you may have to talk to customers.
As a Buddhist community we have rules such as no alcohol, tobacco, drugs, tv, loud music or meat on-site. We also require you to provide a reference .

Also a range of other work available like cooking, helping in the B & B, decorating, gardening - for these jobs, no skills required just enthusiasm to work with a nice Buddhist team.
In return for 25 hours per week usually spread over 5 days with 2 days off, we offer accommodation, and three vegetarian meals per day (one main cooked meal and self serve breakfast and supper). If you are interested, while you are with us, you will be able to attend our meditation classes and courses for free

Sheffield is one of the largest cities in the north of England, and also about 15 minutes by bus from the Peak District, a national park which offers opportunities for walking, cycling and climbing. The Meditation Centre is opposite a large park and is near organic health food shops, cafes and bistros. Flights to Manchester and London are often the cheapest and from those cities you can get a cheap bus to Sheffield (megabus or National Express) or advance rail ticket.

Staying at the Centre was a great experience, despite how close it is to the city centre thanks to the proximity of Endcliffe park you can easily escape and get lost in the wilds of the peak district. Dragden is just adorable and made me feel comfortable as soon as I got there. She always made sure I liked what I was doing, I felt free to do anything. I really felt like I was part of this little community and this is priceless.

Was made very welcome.
Everyone in the centre was lovely from the monks and nuns to the other volunteers.
The centre is beautiful and tranquil, set in the countryside.
Managed to get to some meditations and lessons.
I enjoyed working in the kitchen and producing food for residents.

Tamara stayed with us over the Christmas period. She fitted in really well with us was confidant and happy.
We enjoyed the Christmas period together as we didn't have much work to do as we close to the public for a short period of time.

Phill and everyone else was amazing. I'm so happy I came here for my first Workaway, it was the best experience I could have asked for.
It's a super relaxed environment and everyone is friendly. The surrounding area is beautiful so I went on nature walks/runs most days. Overall, I'd highly recommend it!

He was the politest person you could meet.

Mauro was a fantastic workawayer. He was friendly, polite and hardworking.
He stayed with us for 1 month. He worked very hard during that time and was happy to give anything a go.

I have been a month here and it has been excellent! They are all very friendly and have looked for me to feel comfortable at all times. Loten is very friendly and always carries a smile. The works are light and quiet, the climate there is very warm. Definitely recommend!
