    Description

We are a growing family living in East county Clare. Our home is nestled amongst the trees on the shores of Lough Graney. We had our first child July 2024 and are expecting our second July 2025. So we are in the process learning to care for these new beings while, transforming our land into a sustainable haven to nurture us and our community.

We have 3.5 acres and we are busy planting a food forest and establishing organic food and herb gardens. We don’t have plans to sell anything we grow, we are simply hoping to be as self sufficient as possible and have enough to share with our friends and neighbors.

We have also just building a tiny cabin for future work exchanges and family. So if you come stay with us you would have your own space with a full kitchen and bathroom.

My partner is a Clinical Psychologist and I am a Psychotherapist , we are both yoga teachers. He is Irish and I am originally from the U.S., we have both traveled extensively. We are passionate about creating community and living in harmony with nature. We are LGBTQ friendly and open minded. While we are students of life and are always learning, and we both have experience in, horticulture, permaculture, and agroforestry.

I have a working knowledge of herbs and herbalism and would be happy to share anything that I know. Before moving to Ireland I spent 3 years living and working in various off grid communities in Central and South America. I also managed an reforestation project in the Amazon Rainforest for a few years and have spent time traveling throughout Europe and the United States on various work exchange programs.

I hope that through our experiences we are able to create a fun, comfortable, loving space for you to experience Ireland and all the beauty and community it has to offer.

Community is very important to us. We enjoy attending local events and host gatherings at our home about once a month. You would be welcome to join in on whatever we have planned for the week. Some actives that we've been attending, traditional Irish music nights at the local pub, going to ecstatic or 5 rhythms dances, drum circles, foraging workshops, seed exchanges, yoga classes in our home studio, open mic nights, hiking, trips to local markets, and various art and creative activities. We are well connected and happy to help you find things that interest you so if there is something listed above that catches your eye or if there is a new thing you'd like to participate in we'd be happy to facilitate the experience if possible.
Things have been a bit slower since having our baby, though we still go to a dance most weeks, and to music night in the pub.

We are looking for a couple or an individual who loves working with their hands and enjoys time outdoors. We have planted over 230 fruit and nut trees, and are in the process of getting our vegetable and herb gardens ready for summer.

As I have a 7 month old and am pregnant again, my energy is being diverted to caring for these growing a humans. We would love some support in planting, weeding, and general gardening tasks. We'd also love support with some basic home maintenance, cleaning and upkeep.

We'd love to share dinner cooking responsibilities so being comfortable in the kitchen would be lovely.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

We have two cozy, well appointed spare rooms in the main house, and a small detached cabin in the garden. The cabin has a double bed cozy sitting area and a full kitchen and bathroom plus shower with plenty of hot water. It is fully heated and we have a small projector you could use for movie nights. You are also welcome to enjoy all the communal spaces in the house , we have a spacious yoga/dance studio with a sound system, a cozy living room full of books and art space, as well as a kitchen and dining space.

We also have good Wifi and a washer and dryer available to you.

We do not have any animals or pets.

Outdoor spaces include lake access (we have several kayaks), lots of beautiful trails for forest walks, a workshop, a lovely patio, and 2.5 acre field that we are in the process of transforming into a food forest.

We are working hard to create a sustainable lifestyle, we have solar panels that provide most of our electricity and are looking forward to having our gardens established to reduce our reliance on store bought food. We use mostly natural household products and avoid packaged and processed foods as much as possible (though with a new baby we are slipping a bit, I would love some extra hands to help with cooking!).

We enjoy cooking and love trying new foods. We eat mostly vegetarian and whole foods, serving fish or meat about once or twice a week. We would provide food for you to make yourself breakfast and lunch and you are welcome to ask for your favorite food stuffs or join me on shopping trips. Dinners we would prefer to have as a more communal affair, and depending on your skills and comfort level would love to take turns cooking dinners. But as with all things we are willing to be flexible and find a flow that works for everyone.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

There is a small pub at the end of our lane, but we are very rural. Having been a work exchanger myself I understand the challenges this can pose and will do my best to accommodate your adventures.

We can be flexible with your time off so if there is some event that you would like to attend or if you would like a few days in a particular city we are happy to help you plan travel and your hours to accommodate. We are located about a 20 minutes drive from the nearest towns of Gort and Scariff, and are an hour from Galway and Limerick cities. You are welcome to join us anytime we travel to a town or city, and if you need a ride to a bus or train stop we are happy to drop you off.

If you are coming to us taking a bus or the train to Gort is the best way. You can get trains from Dublin, Galway, and Limrick into Gort. There are also plenty of buss (I just tend to prefer train travel)
