    Description

We are a family of 3, living in Kilmacthomas on the amazing "Waterford Greenway", an amazing 40km cycling and walking track, converted from an old railway line. We live in (and are renovating other sections of) our beautiful old Mill building from the 1840's, situated right on the banks of the river Mahon.
Also in the Mill, we have a contemporary art gallery which was opened after the first phase of renovation works, and a pilates studio just being completed now.
The Mill is also conveniently located in Kilmacthomas town and there are buses to Waterford City and Dungarvan - both are lovely and very close. We are surrounded by incredible beaches, waterfalls, country estates, and more. We have bikes that can be used for enjoying the greenway.
Our son is a very happy little 2 year old who is pretty easy going. He loves to explore outdoors, play and read books.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Located on the Copper Coast, we can offer a taste of this stunning part of Ireland - our location allows for an infinite number of day trips to explore the natural beauty around us. We travel to these places a lot as a family, as we are quite "outdoorsy" and you are more than welcome to join us.
All workawayers will have access to a bike for the Greenway and those over 25 can borrow one of the family cars at times if desired.

The Mill is a very interesting tapestry of history, art and cultural and wellness events so there are infinite opportunities for learning experiences, again, purely if the workaway has an interest in learning about any of those.
We also have horses who will be arriving from our previous home in Spain, but their travel dates are not confirmed.

As we are working on our project here at the Mill, we're looking for someone who can help with childcare for our son while I'm working, and some light housework, such as laundry. Willingness to occasionally cook is also a bonus.

Childcare would be 3-4 hours per day, usually the mornings, 5 days per week, and would involve playing, doing art together, going for walks or to the playground if the weather is good, preparing snacks etc., possibly some very lightly educational activities like counting etc. We will be generally close by too to assist if needed, and just be around. We can be very flexible on the timings of work slots . Spanish visitors who can play with him in Spanish are more than welcome. He understands Spanish.
Some light housework may be included during those hours, some days, at times when our son would be quite happily playing with his toys independently.
We're ideally looking for someone who has experience with children of this age group, in some capacity.

We're happy to bring you on family outings but no pressure if you prefer to just have your free time to explore around yourself.

This host offers a language exchange
We are an English speaking family recently relocated back to Ireland from Spain. I (mum) am fluent bilingual and happy to help you learn or practise your English. Until now our son has attended a bilingual Spanish nursery school, so I am more than happy if you would like to speak with him in Spanish so that he will continue his language development.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Your accomodation will consist of a simple and comfortable new build independent mini-studio apartment at the other end of the Mill building from ours, so you have your own personal space. The studio has a bedroom with a kitchenette, tucked tidily behind a partition, and an ensuite bathroom with a nice big shower.
The bedroom overlooks the river and has beautiful character, with the original stone walls of the mill.
You can eat with us if you like, or we can provide a grocery allowance if you prefer to cook for yourself in your little kitchen, which will be very functional.

We can arrange a work desk for you if you wish to do remote work or study here. Its generally a wonderfully quiet place and the WiFi is good. Worth noting that at times, renovations may involve noise but this is occasional.
