Our property close to town (6km) to downtown Golden, and we have been developing our 80 acres over the last 10 years. I have built 8 log cabins on our property that we rent out on airbnb. In the off season we use these cabins as accommodations for our workaway helpers. Workers will not be doing any work with our Airbnb cabins. We are looking for short term help around our personal house for projects like collecting firewood for the season, landscaping, and seasonal chores.
we are planning on clearing some trees to build a garage
People with campervans are welcome also. We have some nice places you can set up.
On your time off there are lots of activities close by to do, or just enjoy relaxing on our beautiful property

Accommodation
We have rental cabins that we rent out usually. But now with the shoulder season they are available for workaways to stay in. So it will be private accommodations.
Food and meals can be done with my family or in your own cabin. We can work that out
What else ...
Time off you can hike on the trails right off the property.
Biking to and around town. We can provide bicycles. Lots of good hiking in the area.
In the summer we like to go white water rafting, and like to take people along.
What a wonderful family and stay! Sherry and Troy truly saved us after a difficult Workaway experience and welcomed us on very short notice for a two-week stay. From the first day, they made us feel part of the family. We shared lovely evenings with them, their kids and Sherry’s sister Amber, enjoying delicious and healthy meals together with… read more great conversations.
We helped out in the garden with weeding, sanding a log cabin, cutting boards, and even learned how to use a sawmill. Our accommodation was an amazing, well-kept camping trailer that felt like a cozy little home. During the last few days, we house-sat for them, taking care of their sweet dog Josie, their three cats and the plants.
Thank you so much, Sherry and Troy, for your kindness, generosity and for making our stay such a positive and memorable experience!

Just left this great workaway family after almost a month and we already miss it. The accomodation at this place is absolutely amazing, staying in a spacious apartment with everything we needed and amazing views to wake up to. For part of our stay we shared the apartment with two other workawayers (each their own rooms) and had a great time with… read more them as well.
Troy and Sherry both made sure we had enough to eat and made delicious family dinners for us to join. We always had a great time chatting around the dinnertable with them and their daughters.
On the weekends Troy took us on different trips around Golden, he really knew a lot about the area which made us able to visit some places that we otherwise would probably have missed.
However in return we of course had to do some work as well and it was definitely hard work, especially lots of heavy lifting which did make the back and muscles ache after a few weeks, but we also learned a lot while doing so and that is also part of a workaway experience of course. Troy was always clear in what was expected and it did really help that there were four of us for half of our stay (and Troy himself helped us as well naturally).
Definitely make sure to be prepared to work hard, but you're going to have a great experience nonetheless.
Thank you for everything Troy, Sherry and your girls, and take care!

We spent almost 3 weeks at Troy and Sherry's place and had a fantastic time. In that time we worked for Troy building a new shed, this involved climbing scaffolding and screwing panels together. We worked in some cold conditions with snowy days but had lots of clothing and gear provided to keep us warm throughout the day. Some other tasks… read more consisted of snow shoveling, fire wood collecting from the forest and concreting/ building foundations for a new log cabin. The food was amazing, with family dinners most nights. The accommodation was also amazing!! Be prepared for hard work, some long days in any weather condition, learning new skills, and the comedian Mike if he's around (legend).
It's very handy to have your own vehicle for exploring town but Troy and Sherry go to town most days so getting around is no issue. We spent our time off going to the Rec centre for sport and hiked Frenchman's trail. Great views from the top! Golden has a lot to offer for a small town.
Thankyou guys for sharing your Canadian ways of mountain living. We are super grateful for our time together.
