    Description

Hi, I’m Deven, part owner and manager of the Lodge, a family-run lakeside resort located in French River, Ontario. Our family has operated the lodge for over a century — we just celebrated our 100th anniversary last year!

The Lodge has eight cozy waterfront cabins, a lakeside food truck (Dockside Dev’s Cantina), a busy ice cream and gift shop (Silvery Scoops), and a full-service marina. We’re open seasonally from June through early November, welcoming guests from across Canada and beyond to enjoy fishing, swimming, campfires, and classic Northern Ontario cabin life.

Because our business has so many moving parts, we’re looking for motivated, reliable people who want to be part of a real working environment — not a vacation. You’ll be joining a small, friendly team where everyone pitches in, and no two days are quite the same and we're always looking to go the extra mile for our guests.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Staying at our lodge in Northern Ontario offers Workawayers a unique cultural exchange experience in the heart of Canada’s wilderness. As part of our team, they will be welcomed like family, sharing stories, and daily activities with us. We offer hands-on learning in areas such as hospitality, outdoor skills, and maintenance, while also encouraging Workawayers to share their own knowledge and experiences. Through meaningful interactions, they will gain insight into Canadian traditions, local Indigenous culture, and the natural environment. In return, we hope to learn from their perspectives, traditions, and skills, creating a mutually enriching experience that fosters lifelong connections.

    Help

We’re now looking for help for our Summer 2026 season (starting in June). Our Workaway spots are limited, so we’re especially interested in people who can assist in multiple areas of the lodge.

    Main areas of work:

🧺 Housekeeping: Cleaning and preparing 8 cabins on weekly turnover days (Saturday), helping with laundry and lodge upkeep.

🌲 Grounds & Maintenance: Grass cutting, weed trimming, raking, firewood stacking, fueling boats, and general outdoor tasks.

🍦 Ice Cream & Gift Shop: Scooping ice cream, helping customers with souvenirs, handling cash, and maintaining a welcoming environment.

🌮 Dockside Dev’s Cantina (Food Truck): Cash handling, restocking drinks, plating, prep work, and possibly cooking if you have experience.

📱 Social Media: Capturing photos, videos, and stories that showcase the energy and beauty of lodge life.

We offer Ontario minimum wage as a starting point, with higher pay for skilled or specialty roles (for example, an experienced chef, kitchen lead, or social media specialist).

We value hard work, reliability, and a positive attitude — if you’re looking for hands-on experience in hospitality, food service, or outdoor work while living in a beautiful lakeside setting, this could be a great fit.
