    Description

Hi, we are Patrick and Kat. We are currently renovating a property close to downtown Montreal in a nice quiet and safe neighbourhood. The city is a cultural hub full of art, where there is always something fun to do no matter your budget. Montreal is an amazing destination if you are a foodie or if you enjoy cycling as we are situated along the canal and river, which offer safe car-free bike paths that stretch along beautiful blue waterways.

Our home is located right by a metro (subway station) and city bike rentals, so you can access anywhere in the city easily.

Type of work: Renovations / House Improvements
The projects themselves vary wildly depending on what stage we are at. What you should know:
    - We spent a week scraping off paint to re-prime them, it was repetitive and slow, this work occasionally turns up on us and can very well be a workawayer project.
    - The renovation project is mostly handled by Pat who also works on the side so you should expect that a lot of work is done independently(instructions, how to use specific tools for the task and a little bit of assistance to get started is obviously offered).
    - Every few weeks we start lagging behind 'maintenance tasks' like cleaning the house, the windows, the driveways, etc so we have had workawayers with little renovation experience given more cleaning work.
    - The seasons can affect our plans(Summer tasks vs Winter tasks).

In a nutshell; although we do attempt to match some interest levels of our workawayers, especially if they have a strong interest and skills to match up for it with different work, the work varies greatly. Our attitude towards the work is that there are no dishes that are too dirty to clean up and that the right attitude can turn tricky/menial work into a fun time :)*

*Story time: My dad who is an experienced handy man spent a lot of time removing dirt between the walls and the floors because it had to be done. It wasn't a fun job, but we listened to music, took breaks and laughed and it eventually got done. The work we do often humbles us.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

    Accommodation:
You will stay on a separate floor that is currently unfinished and being actively renovated(we have good measures to deal with dust particles ,etc).

The space will be clean, but it is actively part of a renovation project so IT IS NOT furnished and things change every week so being able to adapt is important.

    Food provided:
We eat two meals a day, you are welcome to eat with us, or on your own. We have snacks. Dietary requirements can be taken into account. I will say, if you are a strict vegan it could be harder for dinners, we don't eat a ton of meat, but small amounts are frequently used in meals.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

    - Really easy transit by metro (subway) or bus to/from the airport and generally connecting to all of Montreal.
    - We typically go to bed at 9-10:30pm, the room on your level has it's own entrance, there's a toilet in the basement for use any time, past 8pm we typically prefer not having people on our floor because the dogs bark and Pat goes to bed early.
    - No smoking indoors. We don't expect guests coming over.
    - MAXIMUM STAY duration is 2 weeks, if we get a long and things feel easy we can consider extending. We try to offer a decent experience to our workaway guests, this duration allows us as hosts to reset and make sure we have interesting work as well as an adequate menu to offer, etc.
    - September/October availability is a bit spotty(vacation time for us), but we are open to hosting!
