    Description

We are a Sufi based project, 40 minutes from Granada, southern Spain, and about 15 minutes to the vibrant town of Orgiva in the Alpujjaras. It is a project based on 10 hectares of land just next to the Sierra National Park. We are aiming to farm the land in a traditional - permaculture-biodynamic way. At the moment the land is planted with olive trees and some citrus, fig, pomegranate, grape, almond and persimmon but we are hoping to diversify much more to create a beautiful place for people to come and have courses, retreats, and opportunities to study traditional arts and crafts, eg. sacred geometry, calligraphy, woodwork, spiritual psychology, and creative writing. It is a project based on Islam, so the rhythm of the day will be based around the prayers, eating together and working together as well as plenty of time to explore the area and have time to oneself. The project is based on very blessed land and we look forward to welcoming you.

We are a very diverse community from different parts of the world and part of a much larger Sufi community in Orgiva. The day wil start just before sunrise, for the morning, fair prayer and then we will have a big bowel of soup before going off to work on the land for a few hours. We will then return for the lunchtime prayer, Dhur prayer followed by food and then rest, free time... we are offering an Islamic environment for people to enjoy, share and be fed spiritually with the blessings on this land. it is a place where faith and spirituality are at the core of what we are about,

At the moment we are in the midst of clearing the land and harvesting the olives. It is the olive harvest season, so we are preparing the land so we can harvest the olives and then take them to the mill. After this process we are planning on preparing the land for syntropic farming, establishing a tree and stock nursery, establishing a kitchen garden

    Accommodation

There is one studio, with a private bathroom, that could be shared by two people of the same gender.
There is also a 3 bedroom house, with solar electricity, kitchen and 2 bathrooms.....There is also a communal house, the zawiyah we we pray which has 2 large rooms, one that can be used by men and the other for women, and this house has the communal kitchen and toilets......at the moment we have very limited electricity..there is just the one house with solar electricity which has wifi and phones can be charged here...so it is a simple life...

We will eat together at least twice a day, just after sunrise with soup and then at lunchtime. Food will be mainly vegetarian. There is a communal kitchen that can be used at other times, for teas and drinks...eating together is a big thing at Azahara...we enjoy being together, with whoever is present to meet each other. Azahara is a community project, so there are different people present at different times, a diverse group!!
