Elisa stayed at my place for about 2 weeks, and adjusted very quickly to the house rythm, my mother's assistance, my pets, the huge work in the backyard and even the airbnb customers....

My review is a bit late,
The farm is being renovated. There was much going on around a gite being renovated during my stay though there would be different work with rendering and gardening elsewhere on the farm if had this not been the case. I worked along side Xavier the builder and others; though I do not speak a word of French, we made good
… read more progress. My time working was spent cleaning reclaimed bricks, cleaning old poplar wooden beams with a grinder, gardening, sorting flint (silex) and making holes in 60cm walls for new services. The work was hard but probably just during the present renovation. That is good for you though. I enjoyed it very much. It was high season, July, so many comings and goings. A very busy time for Caroline, I received a request from Caroline. It was my first stop from home in the UK during a tour of Europe. It was quite busy but unfortunately for this reason I was only able to stay two weeks. It is possible to visit Paris from this location and enjoy the countryside. For these reasons I would recommend it. If you know how to ride a horse this would be a great place for you. Caroline has two horses that she took care of. Indeed they told me that they are lifelong riders and competitors. I enjoyed being introduced to them as I have never worked with horses. They seemed happy with nice large space in the centre of the old village. There was lots of space to enjoy. They have good accommodation with room for a few people travelling together and great views out over the meadow. The walks in the meadow and along the river are great.
Caroline expressed herself very well in English (my only language) but didn’t understand me as well as I was expecting. Her mother Carol is a Native American speaking English as her first language. I had expected that Caroline’s first language would be English, but she is however French, and was not quite as fluent as I had assumed. I did have to slow down just a bit to be understood. Caroline’s mother did most of the talking when I arrived. She introduced me to Chaucer and the Canterbury Tale for the first time;…. witch was interesting as I had travelled from my home in Canterbury to their place near Dreux.
The lunch and supper are taken together. As there was lots of work going on the busy conversations remained in French. I must admit that I was, (and am) not used to eating a late meal at all. It was the norm here however and unavoidable. I may well have been half asleep at that time of day. They had a co-op space in the village that makes gigs at the weekend and food; a very nice place. If that sounds like your thing then I definitely recommend working here. You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.

Caroline hosted me for my first Workaway experience and I couldn’t have asked for someone better. She was extremely kind, took time to explain me what I had to do and to make sure that I was doing the right thing. Showed me around and took me to the station when I had free days to travel. The place is wonderful, fully immersed in a little village

I really had fun with her, had a couple of new experiences that I wasn’t expecting. She thought me how to ride a horse and how to take care of them. She has two horses, one goat and two lovely dogs that I miss everyday (my little Brooky, you stole my heart). The work there was simple: some gardening, clean the house, some painting, keep company to her mother sometimes who’s a wonderful woman, with a lot of knowledge on languages and with whom I’ve loved to talk about the way English is being taught in schools. And of course taking care of animals.
Caroline is an energic woman who loves to chat and tell you about anything you ask her about. She knows quite a lot of things and is very helpful and open and careful to correct your French if you ask her to do it. You won’t get bored with her and I absolutely suggest to go and visit her.
Thank you very much and say hi to Carole and to all the animals. It’s been a pleasure, hope to see you aga8n in the future.

The work was very suitable for me. I did some cutting and pruning of the trees and bushes and then started with the vegetable garden. I also did some cleaning and helped with arranging things. I helped a little bit with horses too, and I think for someone who knows more about them than I do, it would be really great. There is also an endless work if you like throwing a tennis ball! I had to give up...
The time just flew by! I had a very good time with Caroline and her mother and the conversations around the table were a pleasure. I was also able to practise my french, so it was very helpful to me.
