    Description

Located in the winelands between Paarl and Wellington we are a family with two adult kids and one teenager. At home with the family we speak German but in all other areas English and Afrikaans is spoken. The farm consists of mixed vegetation as well as olive groves and indigenous bush. The main business is a hotel with 6 employees that do all the routine work.
We have a chef, housekeeper, service and spa operator. (people that mainly work in this function, but they also are involved in other work that need to be done). They have been with us for more than 10 years, and can work in most of the area as of the hotel and sometimes even harvest olives. In the past, Volunteers from Germany have worked well with this team and inspired them to try new recipes, or improve their work flow and in general just enjoyed the cultural exchange. But this depends a lot on the type of person coming. There is also a team that works in the garden, and they enjoy when there is new inspiration too.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

There are usually staff around to interact with during the day. Language should not be a barrier, broken english is fine. However quiet and nature loving workawayers will have an easier time here as we are not linked to public transport. There is an opportunity to go to (and return) from Paarl about two times per week at various times and occasionally there is transport to Wellington. We also go to Cape Town once per Month and the workawayers can join us or use the opportunity to spend their free days there.

    Help

Many small projects are waiting to be finished or started. Our workawayer could have different talents, from fixing small joinery issues, to having green fingers, to training house-keeping skills. In spring time, (from September) we are planting fresh vegetables and spring cleaning for the new season. In Summer we like to upgrade our forest and river paths that were damaged in the rainy season. And in-between you are welcome to pass on building skills, sewing skills or even baking skills.

We do not have a specific handyman on site, but there are always loose hinges, door handles and wobbly chairs that need a patient hand and not to be done in between making beds and serving breakfast. A skilled workawayer could be of assistance to the housekeeping staff to fix these issues.
Other talents could be used in the vegetable and herb growing. We are looking for someone who is willing to pass on his or her knowledge to a willing staff member that will be guided to continue the project.
I am not wanting to replace any specific function on the farm, but I would like to kick start the growing season / a sewing project / and just the general experience with the help of the workawayer.

your accommodation will be in a guest room adjoining the hotel. The room has its own bathroom and a small fridge. There is bedding, towels and wifi, but no television. You will either have meals with the hotel staff or the family. We eat a variety and if you are vegetarian that is fine, but we do have meat at most meals too.
