    Description

Come and stay with us if you like fresh & healthy food, nature and interesting cultural exchange!

...you are more than welcome in our warm and cozy home in Bavaria, Germany.

    Dear Workawayers,
We are Melanie (mum), Thomas (dad) and our daughters Evelina (born 2016) and Patrizia (born 2020).
After travelling the world together for a year through Workaway, we are now looking forward to becoming hosts ourselves and creating the same cultural and personal exchange we enjoyed so much during our journey.

On a typical week day, we take care of our lovely foster cats in the early morning, bring the children to school, head off to work or return home to engage in various projects. Often, we are busy tending to the garden or simply spending time outdoors in the nearby forest or meadows with the kids in the afternoon.
In the evening, we all look forward to preparing a delicious dinner with fresh and healthy ingredients and gathering around the table to share our experiences made during the day.

Our home is in a quiet residential area in a small village close to Abensberg. We are blessed to live surrounded by beautiful countryside, cycling paths and many, many walking trails.
Forest walks, bike rides and being close to animals are part of our day-to-day life and we are always happy to share these activities with our guests.

Our region offers many highlights for nature as well as culture lovers: the Altmühltal Nature Park (stunning hiking trails), the Danube river landscapes and - of course - the historic city of Regensburg (UNESCO World Heritage).

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Our whole family is flexible, open-minded and likes making new friends. So, cultural exchange comes very naturally to us and it's something that we enjoy a lot. Maybe just like you?
Evelina and Patrizia, our two young daughters, are always so excited to meet people from foreign countries. Both of them are already pretty good in English (thanks to school and especially thanks to our World Travel) and they enjoy practicing it with our guests. In exchange, we are more than happy to support you if you want to improve your German (or English). At home, we sometimes switch beetween the two languages (or sing English songs), that makes learning a foreign language easy and fun.

If you choose to stay with us, you will soon have an authentic impression of typical German family life as well as local Bavarian traditions and seasonal celebrations.
...and: we can't wait to get to know your culture, music, games and stories! Especially our kids enjoy learning new songs or sayings from our guests.

All of us four really love spending time outdoors, like riding our bikes through beautiful scenery, taking long walks, or making day trips together. If this is something you are interested in, we can also explore local history and cultural sites together with you. This will give you a much deeper insight into our culture, traditions and the whole region.

  • Help

    Help

We would love a little bit of help in our daily life, such as:

    - Together looking after our small vegetable garden, maintaining the beds or creating new spaces to grow delicious fresh veggies
    - Little creative projects in and around the house, like drawing artworks to make our walls more beautiful and colourful
    - Spending time and chatting with our daughters in English, German or Spanish
    - Smaller household tasks (like cooking, tidying, laundry)
    - Taking care of and giving some attention to our family pets

Most of the time we host 2-5 foster cats for a local animal rescue, feeding them and caring for them as well as giving them lots of love until they find their forever home. We would appreciate some help with that, too.

You really don't need to be experienced to come and help us - just motivated, friendly and open-minded as well as reliable and happy to join our family life!

We are happy to share and help you with German, our native language. But we also love communicating in English (our daughters speak English, too!). Maybe you can help us to improve our Spanish or French... or even teach us a completely new language!

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

We can offer you your own spacious room on the top floor with a beautiful view on the neighbourhood and garden . It's kind of a studio, bright and cozy (indeed, one of the nicest rooms in our home!) and you will have plenty of privacy there.
Concerning bathrooms: you are welcome to share our large family bathroom and take showers there. Furthermore, there is an additional guest toilet with sink you can use.

Sharing most of our meals together as a family, it goes without saying that you are very welcome to join us at the kitchen table - the heart and soul of our home, where many stories and laughter are shared! Sometimes, meal preparation will be up to us, sometimes you might like to prepare your favorite meals (of course we are happy to provide the ingredients!). We are really curious to learn new recipes from foreign countries - let's share food and kitchen time as part of our fun together!

  • What else ...

    What else ...

    Public transport in our region:
Our little city of Abensberg is very convenient to reach by train (e.g. from Regensburg, Ingolstadt or Munich). That makes it easily accessible from any German city.
As we drive to Regensburg almost every week day, we could pick you up there, bring you back there for your departure or simply take you along for day trips - which gives you plenty of time to explore the beautiful UNESCO World Heritage City. We also go to Ingolstadt quite regularly (mostly on Saturdays) and to Munich from time to time.

In your time off, we are happy to borrow you a bike so that you can explore nature, shopping, bakeries or whatever you like on your own. We also have a fitness center, yoga classes, supermarket and much more directly in our village.

As we have been Workawayers ourselves and travelled many different countries helping many different people during that time, we truly believe in a great exchange experience for both sides! With the help of clear communication, fairness and honesty, and - most importantly - treating each other with respect and mutual understanding, we will have a wonderful, enriching time together. We really want to make you feel at home and help you with whatever you want to learn and experience in Germany - may it be language, skills or simply enjoying each others company.

We can't wait to welcome you in our home, learn from each other and create new happy memories together!
