    Description

I am a retired teacher (Maths and Politics) (born in 1946), living now after my retirement in this very little village (about 110 people). I am engaged in the activities of my neighbourhood and I am happy to "share" my guests with some of the neighbours.

I am engaged in the activities of my neighborhood and I am happy to "share" my guests with some of the neighbors.

My village is located 80 km south east of Hamburg, some nice little towns are not far away: Lüneburg, Schwerin, Dömitz, Lauenburg .... Distance to the river Elbe is 12 km by car or 8 km as a bird.
The village was part of the East-German state from 1949 to 1990. It is typical of German history of the last century: Some families lived here before 1945, others arrived as refugees after 1945 from East-Europe, others came as immigrants after 1990 from West-Germany and since some years there are immigrants from all over the world. So my guests are able to study problems and successes in living together. Once in a month (in summer) we have a little get-together in the village with coffee and cake – and of course a lot of other events.
Activities: the village is situated in the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Elbe; nearby is the Elbe bike trail.
The village is part of the first German “Arche-Region”, a project to keep old fashioned cattle (cows, pigs, chicken etc.). Our farmer (cows and sheep) is also a member of this project and he is farming with some biological standards.
Our village and the villages around are birth and childhood place of Carl Peters, the conqueror of “Deutsch-Ostafrika”, now Tanzania. I am engaged in the discussion about “our colonial heritage”.
And in all these activities my guest can take part and are carrier of cultural exchange between Preten in Germany and the whole world.
