I volunteered at the community center for three months from January to March 2025. This was one of the best things that I've ever done in my life. Sara the coordinator, the staff, and the other volunteers are some of the best people I've ever met and worked with. Every day was different and every day felt meaningful and important to help refugees

i stayed in kos for one month and it was a truly incredible experience! the people and the work absolutely touched my heart and it was such a hard community to leave. people are social, like to hang out but there's also lots of freedom to do your own thing. it's good to note this definitely isn't your standard workaway as it is an official
… read more organisation and you are working for the majority of the day. however i knew this coming into it and felt super supported by the project managers and wider team the entire duration of my stay. at the time
i was doing this, volunteers are expected to pay for their accomodation and food so it's a little more expensive than most workaways, but again, it's a totally unique and special experience tbat i'm so grateful to have been apart of.You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.

We have been a month in Kos with glocal roots and it has been a very enriching experience. All the people we met were always super kind with us: people at the center, coordinators and other volunteers. The apartment was big and close to the center and to the sea. The work wasn’t too hard and we really enjoyed it! We would recommend this host

I really liked the project on Kos working for this ngo for 3 weeks in September. The communication with the project coordinators (Sara and Tamina) was open and clear, there was a good introduction and also time for feedback and suggestions at the end.
The tasks were various and not so hard working in shop, filling warehouse, go shopping, some
… read more gardening. I was also able to give some improvised english classes to the refugees. The atmosphere was nice. Sometimes it can become a bit hectic when a lot of people come to shop at the same time or when there is more noise. I started to have some contact on a deeper level with people after 2-3 weeks so it would be best if you stay at least 1,5 month or even longer to make a bigger impact. Also time is limited during the day. Working hours can sometimes be a lot more than the usual 4 to 5 hours which are kind of the workaway standard. The apartment was spacious and in a quiet nice residential area with supermarkets close, around 20 mins walk. Also outside work a lot of social invitations from the coordinators to go for pizza or a drink which made me feel very welcome even though i did not always have the energy to join. Coordinators wete also flexible to adapt to specific wishes of volunteers eg afternoon off etc. and they were thankful also for the help which i do not notice with all workaway hosts.
As the project does not get a lot of funding volunteers need to pay for stay and food, so take note as iliving on Kos is not that cheap.
All in all I really liked it and would love to have stayed longer.
Tamina and Sara (coordinators) are very friendly, welcoming, supportive and have great sense of direction how the center should operate.
Loved to be supporting the store center, providing new ideas and projects for the refugees. Had great conversations with the refugees and always trying to guide them to a better path in life.
Was hard work
… read more because some days had to work 7 hours but was for a good cause.
Tamina and Sara are great coordinators and the "spirit" of the center for all people that come to the community center.

I had the opportunity to spend a couple of weeks working with this project on Kos. They needed someone last minute and I was lucky enough to get the chance to be a part of this small, but close knit team and work alongside them to do some truly important and meaningful work in an area of great need.
The work itself is not technically difficult,
… read more mostly doing day-to-day work in the free store, stocking the shelves, bagging items, cleaning, making tea and coffee, organizing things etc., but it can be emotionally taxing at times and there are definitely long days. However, I felt supported and valued throughout my stay, and the accommodation, a modest room in an apartment allows for privacy and recharging. It's humble work with good people whose hearts are in the right place and are in it for the right reasons. I am grateful to have had the experience and can recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone with their intentions and expectations in a similar place.Learn about marble carving in Naxos, Greece
