Description
Hello potential helpers! Looking for a peaceful stay in Colorado's Rocky Mountains in exchange for some help on our property?
We will provide very comfortable accommodation, great meals, and side sightseeing trips.
The maximum length of stay that would make sense will depend on your skills and, obviously, how much we all enjoy each others' company.
You would stay in our guest room, which has its own bathroom and is on its own level so you'll have complete privacy. The bedroom has a view of Mount Evans, a 14,265' (4,348 m) peak. The photo of the mountain in our profile is the view from "your" bedroom! The room has an extremely comfortable queen sized bed.
You will be very well fed. There's no problem accommodating most food restrictions or preferences you may have.
We would ask you to help around 25 hours a week.
We are surrounded by wildlife, including elk, deer, foxes, and dozens of species of birds. There is no TV here, but we do have good wifi. We have lots of books, and the library's not far away. Although we are not in a town, we get excellent mobile phone reception here. It's very peaceful here, and we want to keep it that way, so this won't work for someone who wants to party.
Nothing (other than nice walks/hikes) is in walking distance. If you do not have your own vehicle, you would have limited independence as far as getting around. With a car though, you are an hour away from several world-famous ski resorts, and closer to an unlimited number of spectacular hikes. We are only 40 minutes away from the large city of Denver, which has museums, sports arenas, etc. etc. If you are a winter visitor, we have snowshoes you can borrow. In summer, you can rent a canoe to enjoy the nearby lake. We're happy to give you lifts to nearby places. There are several pubs, etc. nearby, but the roads are curvy mountain roads, often well-monitored by the local highway patrol, so in more ways than one it is not safe to drive home after having a few drinks. We also do not really want anyone who has more than a few drinks in an evening here anyway. Drugs are a deal-breaker. Even though it's legal in Colorado, that includes marijuana. We like to enjoy life in healthier ways. If you smoke tobacco, that would be outside only.
About us: we are a very well-traveled couple, and really enjoy meeting people. We both speak fluent Spanish, and can communicate in several other European languages. Some of our many interests include conversation, history, politics, international affairs, and learning new things. One of the activities we spend our time doing is mentoring refugees from Darfur and South Sudan, so they often visit our home.
Rona was a workaway volunteer in Australia in 2014, so we really have an understanding for what it's all about.

This is the American West. You'll see what life is like in a clean, crime-free, relaxed part of the United States. In the summer there are often nearby rodeos to attend.
Help
We'll be doing some DIY interior renovations as well as an addition to our house. May through October we are gardening and landscaping as well.
One of us is an experienced jack of most trades. We have just about every power tool and hand tool you can think of. We'll work right along with you, unless you prefer to work alone.
Sometimes we need general help or someone who enjoys gardening.
At other times, depending on what we are doing, someone able to help with stone and/or brick masonry, concrete, tile setting, cabinetry, or carpentry would be much appreciated. Engineers of any kind - you engineers are always amazing!Languages

A little more information
Internet access
Limited internet access
We have pets
We are smokers
Can host families
Can host digital nomads
We consider ourselves digital nomad friendly because our wifi is reliable, and we get good signals from all cellular providers which is not always the case in the mountains. Also because it's peaceful and relatively quiet here. There is road noise, but rarely does it get distracting.
Space for parking camper vans
We have a long, flat parking area. We had a helper come in a converted school bus, and that worked out fine. For a camper van there are nicer spots among the trees that can be used for parking, with access to electrity and wifi.

Because of his travel plans, his stay was really short, but the quantity and quality of work he got done while here was absolutely incredible. He designed a beautiful fireplace surround, cut the stone, and installed it in two days. We can't get over how it's transformed our house.
